Tree Bleeding Sap

Hello, This is the first time I have posted here, I am a regular in the Hosta Forum.

I have a problem/question about my Higan Weeping Cherry tree. It is a beautiful tree, 4 years old. I think I may have found the answer to why the sapping is happening. My husband pruned and trimmed the tree in June (I didn't know until he had done it) and I have read that this can cause sap bleeding, done at the wrong time of year.

My question now: is there anything we can or should do to stop it? Will it cause other problems? Should we scrape the sap off? Could there be another cause?

My first instinct is to leave it alone, but want to do whatever it needs. Thanks!

chris
