Aren't they cute little things? I had some last year but the bunnies ate them. I see some coming back. I love the little leaves they look so neat.

That is so wonderful, I am very excited about my babies too. I winter sowed a bunch last year and the little ones are coming up again. Your Mom's sound really interesting maybe we can swap seeds this fall.
Yesterday I found out that my babies from sea octopus are going to come true, they are already narrow and wavy. :) I've got a baby June that is looking good too and one other that seems to have a white margin on the outside. We'll see, I'm sure there will be other differences. I really should take more pics.

Hi flood - yeah, I should have taken pics of mom's last year. Maybe someone on the hosta forum can identify it for me. Mom doesn't have a clue. I know the Bressington Blue for sure, it still has the tag. LOL Trade? You betcha! :-D

Karendee - mine are just specks in the jug. But I can see them with the magnifying glass so I'm calling them 'sprouts'. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! :-D

Just did a little Googling. The 'yellow wavy' one might be Marrakech. I like when I can put a name to something. Makes it easier to tell about it. :-D

Oh that is really pretty, I would definitely trade for those. I have a few different ones I know of, sum and substance and big blue give me a lot of seeds. I also have a solid green that gets about two foot does ok in sun and has dark purple flowers. My verigated ones don't like to make seeds for me.
Now I want to go take pics of my babies.

So happy for you. Still waiting to see if mine sprout.

Hope I'm just as lucky as you. This is my first year trying to ws hosta seeds, keep peaking in the jugs thinking come on guys you can do it!!

The ones I sowed this year aren't up yet. I'll give them more time. I think I remember them being late starters last year too.

Both 'El Nino' and 'Dream Weaver' sprouted for me. When I looked this morning, I'm guessing I got 100% germination on 'El Nino.' There's lots of tiny, pointy sprouts in the jug. I'm thrilled because it's such a gorgeous cultivar. It opens blue with a narrow cream margin and gradually turns greener as the summer wears on. Medium-sized, well behaved and (to me) very elegant. I hope the seedlings come true to the parent.

Yesterday, while out looking to see what was going on in the garden, I found a seed pod from what must have been the twist of lime hosta. this is fantastic considering I have never had seeds from any of my hostas before. The pod was open and there were six seeds lying in it and it was on the patio stone so not mixed in the soil. I planted them in a container and stuck them out with my other WS containers.....not sure if they will do anything after sitting like that all winter, but you know....nothing ventured nothing gained.
I just wanted to have cute little sprouts like you all are talking about! :)

I wanted to add that I just noticed hosta sprouts in all my containers as of yesterday. Apparently mine wait till late april to get started. I'm so happy to have another batch to look after though. :)

Mine are sprouting too, I'm excited. They are not supposed to come true to seed, most are supposed to be plain green...internet wisdom says you end up doing a lot of culling to get "desirables" - but I have a whole foundation on the north side of my house to plant (and nobody ever goes there) so I don't care if I have free green hostas!!!
