Honey Locust Seed Pods

Waiting_for_Autumn

I moved into a house a couple of years ago that has a honey locust in the front yard. This year, it's spawning an insane number of seed pods (it seems there are more pods than leaves on the tree!) The previous owner came by for a visit and said that this year's load is greater than she had ever seen in the 20+ years that she lived there. Is there any reason anyone knows of regarding why this is happening this year? Can anyone suggest a way to reduce the number of pods next year?

A little information:

We live in Colorado.

The tree is approximately 30 years old.

We water it three times a week with a standard sprinkler system.

This year's summer started very cool and wet, but has become very hot and dry. We've had about 40 days of 90+ degree weather.
