Thanks Ann for Elizabeth Lawrence!

About a week ago in a thread related to chinas and teas Ann recommended reading some of Elizabeth Lawrence's books. I totally admit my ignorance of this author only to find that she in fact lived and wrote in Charlotte (I work in Charlotte). Her house and gardens are still right near Winghaven Gardens and I will definitely make a point of getting there this spring.

I had just finished reading the book Wicked by Dan McGuire and was looking for something a bit lighter and Elizabeth Lawrence was perfect! Her book A Southern Garden was great...she talked of flowers, old roses, droughts and freezes. The other one I read was Through the Garden Gate, which is a collection of her gardening columns from the Charlotte Observer was a delight. She talks of the ups and downs of gardening in the area and spoke honestly of her failures and successes. She also loved old roses and didn't have much good to say about hybrid teas.

Thanks so very much Ann for aiming me in that direction.

Carole
