I would think it would be fine to dig them now, providing you dig deep and wide and try not to disturb the soil on the roots anymore than need be. I'd have their new 'home' prepped and ready to plant them immediately after lifting them. I'd be afraid to leave them until later, not knowing what the next renter might do to them. They might break them all off so there would be no way of finding them. If you can't prep the soil yet for replanting, I would just pot them up and plant them out later, with all of the potting soil left on the bulbs. Good luck! lucifer53, I wasn't disagreeing. Importing is hurting not just the garlic industry. I always try to buy made in US. ESPECIALLY my food. villandry, I watched a documentary recently from Gilroy. Christopher Ranch tried for years to get legislation passed to BLOCK the importing of garlic as they watched their crops dwindle. They failed. The only way they could stay afloat was to sleep with the enemy and buy their garlic. Now they are forced to grow less, import more. It's the consumers fault, Not Christopher Ranch. Everyone wants CHEAP! That's why the big box stores are so huge and the Mom & Pop stores are getting plowed under. Okay, I'm off my soapbox now! Tom

The Stargazers will require about 400 hours of chill/vernalization at a temperature of about 35 degrees F to assure a good bloom next spring. Lilium bulbs dug and sold for Fall planting (which I assume these were) are not prechilled; bulbs shipped in March/April for Spring Planting are prechilled by the seller. So, about a month in the fridge should do. Watch to make sure they stay just a little moist--don't let them dry out because lily bulbs don't have a protective shell like tulips do. And then plant them right along with your tulips. In your zone 9, Stargazers may or may not require an annual refigerator vernalization for a good bloom--see how they flower in 2013; and decide from there. floral_uk z.8/9 SW UK - no cold sheds here where I live. I am zone 8b about 150 miles from the Gulf coast. Last year we had very little winter weather so when I forced for bloom inside some went outdoors and came into bloom pretty quickly. I have lots that are already growing outside but just did it because I wanted to force for inside and had a few left over.
