What a hoot, I just posted, although I want my jugs to sprout I am NOT ready!

I didn't get to collect leaves in the fall, my cool crop veggie bed needs to be tidyy up for plants next month.

What a mess around the yard, high winds and things are all over the place, have a broken storm window laying on the porch roof, a big piece of soffit came off the West sdie of the house and I forgot I have to tear the pool pump aprt to have a plug ordered and replaced.

Gosh am I glad I don't have to mow!

I've got more tilling in my tomato patch to take care of this weekend. I spent all last summer and this winter getting my beds ready so it was just a matter of raking the leaves off and shredding them. I did that a couple weeks ago.

My veggie garden is my only worry. It's a lasagna style bed and has only been in place since December. It dries out way too fast even on cold days. I hope the summer humidity helps. I can't go two summers without fresh squash and cucumbers.

I've got a TON of work to do! Winter came too early and I didn't get to clean everything up before it did.

We had snow cover all winter until about two weeks ago. I was actually a bit disappointed when the snow melted because I was reminded of the huge mess out there - pots that never made it into the garage, hoses just coiled up on the ground, piles of leaves that never got raked, trellises from the veggie garden laying on the ground waiting to be put away - yuck.

Kind of made the eight to ten inches of snow we got this past Monday a little easier to take, lol. It hid everything again!

But with the temps forecast to be in the 60's this weekend, I guess it's time to finally clean up... if the mud will allow it!

Yup my list looks like yours cAROL, except I need to till the lasagna bed that didn't decompose due to whole leaves, do more pooper scooping, rake the leaves off my beds and direct sow some things. Lots of twig pick up, I got most of the limbs so far. With all of the branches that fall in my yard you would think I'd get more sun.

Actually, things shouldn't be too bad here. I'm anal about picking up leaves in the fall and shredding them right away so they are ready for mulching or composting.

After 8 years on this property there are now so many gardens (to me) that spring will be busy just tending to them and seeing what made it or not, but the gardens thaw out one after the other and if I go along with their thawing 'sequence' and keep up, then I should be fine. LOL!!

Really looking forward to the time change this weekend and today the weather is really like spring. :O)

I got a dog last fall. he's 50lbs and sheds a pound or so three times a day at least. He drops them outside and does the other like a racehorse.

I looked out at my front yard during our spring melt and saw the brown lake. And this was where I removed the grass and had a garden last year.

Yes, lots of clean up!

The usual clean up of garden beds since I don't do that in the fall (I'm not bothering to rake up any of the leaves that fell or blew in the gardens, just leaving them there for mulch.)

Lots of sticks and some brush cleanup, and several large brush piles waiting to be burned. This lot was overgrown with invasive plants and clearing these out has generated an endless amount of brush. I even leave some of it laying in place and piles for the critters, but there's too much. I pile it into long but not very high piles, so it burns low and cool, in the middle of invasive plants (mostly Oriental bittersweet), and burn them back for extra control.

TONS of transplanting to do this Spring - I always move stuff around in the Spring, but this year looks to be extra busy.

The SPring is always the busiest season in the garden!

*sigh*, I have to work today. I would rather be cleaning up the yard. Hubby is doing a little yard work today to help me out. Enjoy the nice weather everyone!

You bet I have clean up! I went outside yesterday so hubs and I could move the cold frame and everything was a soggy mess! Our concrete patio has sunk a bit, and now the back half of it is covered in mud, from the run off from my garden bed. The entire area around the patio has to be dug up, and I need to figure out a way to shore up the side of the garden, to keep it from spilling onto the patio. Looks like we're going to have to build a couple of raised beds.

I'm getting a bit worried that I might get all my flowers in, exactly how I want them around the patio, and the we'll need to replace the patio!!

The biggest job I have facing me is hopefully, if I am strong enough, digging up and dividing daylilies. They should be done every 3 years, and mine have been in the ground so long that they no longer are even the same colors they used to be. Anything that was crossed with Janice Brown has reverted back to the color of native plants, it's really weird to see what's happened to them, they're gonna be tossed. I have plenty of others that have colors I like, and I'll save those. Then the entire bed needs to be tilled and replanted.

Ahh... Daylilies. Mine are disgusting. The blooms are all deformed and I don't like the color... actually after these, I don't like any daylilies! I think that's the first thing I'll do... dig 'em up and plant them in the dumpster... or there abouts. Maybe the ducks would like them by the pond.

Nancy...install 2" thick brick pavers over your existing concrete patio. And edge the beds with a row of bricks turned on their side.

Token, can I do that even if the concrete is pretty uneven? The front of the patio tilts toward the courtyard and that back of the patio tilts inward towards the doors. Wouldn't the pavers end up the same?

Lots and lots of clean up! sticks,twigs,branches, we will be burning tons. Hopefully I'll get a little more ambition when ground dries up a bit!!

Nancy, have someone look at it. In your zone, I'm pretty sure you can use a crushed stone and sand base to lay the pavers on. That would give you a more even surface. You could even use stone instead of brick. I would not recommend using a mortar under the brick, but I'm not 100% it wouldn't work in your area either. Ask someone for a detailed quote, then do it yourself. :)

BTW, there are varying ideas about doing this.

Can I install brick over my existing concrete or asphalt driveway, patio or walk?

But I think it can be done. After googling it, I think a concrete mortar beneath the brick or stone would work in your zone. Just get something that will not crack with the freeze/thaw.
