My sunflowers have sprouted too, and I'm also wondering what to do with them. I was really surprised, as I am still waiting for many of my perennials to sprout!

you can do one of 2 things. Let nature takes it's course and the stronger of the 2 seedlings will survive in the cup, or, separate them into their own little cup when they are about 2-3 inches tall.

With this crazy weather we are having, that shouldn't take more than a week to get up there to that height.

You could also try the HOS method with them. I've never done HOS with my sunflowers, I always put 1 seed in a cup because they do grow quickly and it's just easier to take the entire plant out of the cup and plunk it in the ground.

Usually, sunflowers are one of my last seeds out because I find that they germinate very quickly when the temps warm up and this winter, they've pretty much stayed warm all winter. Warm being relative, this has been one heck of a warm and snowless winter.

Playing around with sunflowers I never found much advantage to starting them anyplace other than the final destination. Perhaps a bit of advantage sometimes but not much.

Were I to have two mammoth sunflowers in a cup I would transplant them together and after a couple of weeks clip off the weaker one.

Unless, of course, I needed both, in which case I would separate them at the first opportunity.
