Lee I noticed in your trade list that you have potato multiplying onions. I'm interested very much in getting a start of potato onions. Check out my trade list. I also probably get some red welch bunching onions that sound like what you are looking for. Alan

Here's an idea you might consider. I have trouble starting these from seed, too--they take forever. What I do now is use store-bought bunching onions to get me started early in the season. I can get three bunches here for about a $1.50. I cut the tops off just as I normally would for cooking and save 3-4 inches of the bottom stem and roots. Just plant them in the garden wherever you want them. They take off like crazy and will re-generate a full-sized green onion in about 5-6 weeks. I just cut the tops off as I need them, leaving the little bulb in the ground. Meanwhile, I plant the seedlings (any that have sprouted), but at least have some fresh onions while I'm waiting for the babies to mature. Prof Prof

i have used 1 year old seed and it did germinate but it was so so maybe 50%. onion seed is good for a year. i would think if they germinate then they'll grow. i always throw away or give away seed i don't use and buy fresh each year, a packet of onion seed is not that expensive considering i get about 100 pounds of onions and that's good for a year. i want to know that my 200 seeds will germinate at about 90% not 50% as i need about 150-170 plants but that's me. tom
