Bareroot Planting Dilemna-Help!

Terry Crawford

Well, here's the deal. I received a bareroot waaay too early yesterday...should have been here next April 2009. Called the vendor and they admitted they made a mistake and are going to send again next April and told me to keep this one and will not charge for the one in April. So that's all good. But...what to do with the one I have soaking in a pail of water?

Do I plant in the ground and hill it up? I don't want it to break dormancy, so if I plant it outside now with winter just around the corner, will it freeze and die? Or will it have a better chance of I pot it up and grow it in the kitchen where it will get sun during the day?

I have started early bareroots inside in February before and planted outside in April with great success, but it was just short-term; not for 6 months.

What would you do?
