Get yourself over to the Antique Rose Forum. The roses you mentioned are discussed there.

Also, just yesterday, there was a rose sale by the Central Florida Heritage Rose Society. The roses were mostly antiques and were mostly grafted on Fort.

The bad news is that this wonderful sale last took place over two years ago. The good news is that Dr. Manners said that there will be another sale and I got the impression that it would be held in a few to several months.

Dues for the society are $15.00 per year and you must be a member to get first pick of the roses.

Also try to get together with the Tampa Rose Society. There are a LOT of folks in this society that grow a LOT of OGR's and shrubs. Most of these people are great folks. Also contact Cool Roses in Palm Beach. They have a good web site and have a lot of roses that arn't listed. Everything is on fortuniana root stock.

I've got a souvenir de la malmaison on fortuniana from Cool Roses. It does very well in our climate surprisingly. It does get BS. I think all roses here get BS. Louis Phillipe has had the least amount of blackspot in my garden.

Hi - Thanks for all the information, I did E-mail COOL ROSES 3 times, and no reply, so I wrote them, will see if they reply... I don't drive very far, so going to Tampa is out of the question... I'm making a new bed will be ready by Dec. after I suffocate the grass and work it up, I know I'll get a Sweet Surrender also a Tiffany, but the remainder I want to try some Antiques on Fortuniana... Nelson's in Apopka used to have a big web-site but no more, so will call them to see if they graft Antiques, and do have my heart set on the Souvenir de la Malmaison, and will try the Louis Phillipe... also, I tried spraying ( hose-end) with Bayer 3 in one and it worked very well, lasted several weeks... does anyone have comments abt. Bayer ? I heard not to use it consistently, so wonder what other hose-end would work well? I appreciate any and all advice, it all helps, and THANK YOU ... sally, in St Pete

Ortho has a hose end adjustable sprayer that has worked well for me with the Ortho product and the Spectra products as well.

Saldut, I have to wonder what your preocupation with OGRs on Fortuniana is. If there are a class of roses that we Floridians can grow on their own roots it is the time tested OGRs. You are right about Nelson's Roses having a good selection but I would look up the mother-daughter team that is Blooming Idiots. They too are located up in the central Florida region but their specialty is pure OGRs (on own root, though). They've never had a problem growing great big OGRs in our soils (nor have I for all that matter, and I can kill a bush with the best of them).

Your not getting a prompt response from Cool Roses doesn't surprise me. Debbie is the one that handles the e-mails and sometimes she gets too busy with the other stuff to get around to answering the cyber mail. I would recomend giving them a call. It's the fastest way I've been able to get ahold of them.

As far as your BS problem goes...Nothing works for me as well as Banner Maxx and Dithane. Always remember that you need a contact fungicide and a systemic one to give the ole BS the one-two punch. Also consider, however, that with the heat we've been having that spraying could cause more problems than solve them. I'm waiting for a few good cold spells to cut everything back down and start up my spray program again (thrips are my constant demons).

Another good preventative is to pick off the leaves with BS and throw it away in a trash can instead of letting it fall into the soil at the base of the bush.

I do have roses mostly grafted, but when I did get own-root it lasted abt. 3 years and was fading the second year... so I said never-again.... now I won't spend $20.-$25. for a bush that is not grafted, and most of my roses are 20-25 years old and huge.... I have never tried Old Roses, but am starting a new bed once I suffocate the grass, and it sounds like Louis Phillipe as well as Souvenir de la Malmaison might work here, but I am asking for more suggestions for proven winners, for here in our Nematode-infested soil and high-humidity hot weather.... I seem to like the Bayer 3-in-1 hose-end, it kills thrips as well as BS, but had heard something abt. not using it consistently, and ask if there is another combination that works well... I used to get Orthenex but they took it off the market, per the Nursery guy......... I can no longer handle a pump-top so have to use a hose-end.... and a combination spray cuts the work.... thanks again, sally

K&M Nursery used to have SDLM and Louis Phillipe on Fort. I have an email address and phone number but it is a few years old-not sure if they still work. Can't hurt to try ; )
