Continually Blooming Landscape Rose??

Several folks have told me about Peach Drift, but I am wondering about any other continual blooming landscape roses or small shrub roses. I saw Carpet of Color at Heirloom this summer, but am not sure that it blooms continually. I have an area in my front yard where I could put three or four landscape roses. Your suggestions?

Oh Gosh....I would say (Knockout( but then I'll hate myself. So, I'm going to say the bright red Canadian (Champlain(....about as continuous blooming as there is.

I would say 'Knock Out' without hating myself. In the right spot, for the right gardener, it's the right rose.

However, I don't know about performance in the PNW.

'Carefree Beauty' and 'Betty Prior', perhaps.

I really appreciate you all looking and commenting on the garden. Kathi, it is easy to have a lot of iris bloom at the same time...have 2 or 3 hundred of them like the idiot in Alabama, and there are always a number of them blooming. I get embarrassed at the excess and quit posting them after a while. Cyn424, Actually, Julia Child blooms pretty well for me and she in in total shade due to New Dawn overgrowing her.Worth a try. Most of my roses get morning sun but afternoon shade...a good thing here in the heat. Mantis, what iris would you like to see close up? Midnight Blue does well for Rita in Long Island, and it is doing very well here, so with your skills it should be a winner for you. The color is pretty unique. the only one I have close to it is Cardinal Richelieu...and it's a once bloomer. Sandi, I am sorry the frost got your iris...like I told cyn424, buy a lot of iris, then you have blooms...awful answer, I know it. sorry. I'm glad you enjoyed the blooms and hope you get re-bloom on yours. Rena, the iris make clumps fast, then you have to divide. aargh! It was a spring to treasure though, it really was. Girlgroupgirl. Thank you, I got it as a band from Heirloom, and it was a teeny thing. It has a nice fragrance too. A year older, good rains, cool spring, and Mills Magic Mix have meant unprecedented bloom for me. Stacian, sounds like your doing a great job with those roses! Juju, splitting those tiny plants is very difficult so don't feel bad that some of them died. I've had the same luck with splitting them myself so no longer try to do it. Generally I never recommend trying to keep them inside over the winter. Roses are never happy inside. Anytime roses are in temps above about 40 degrees they will try to grow and they can't get enough light or humidity to grow properly and will struggle at best in the house. If you do want to keep them inside put some lights on them even in the window and place them on trays with water and pebbles in the bottom. Make sure that the bottom of the pot does not sit in water but up on the top of the stones. This will help bring the humidity up around them.

The local nursery had a 50% off sale, so I bought one each of their #2 Drifts. Kept them indoors for less than a week, during which time I noticed the Pink started to have holes in its leaves like my Knockouts always do, the Red's leaves started to turn yellow (mainly in the middle of the plant, so it's even more "split" in the middle now), and the Coral got covered with powdery mildew all over its beautiful flowers and some leaves. Guess keeping them indoors was a bad idea, but also interesting to see what kinds of problems they might develop, especially late in the season. I must say though, I was not at all expecting powdery mildew on the Coral...if anything, I thought it would be on the Pink. Went ahead and cut off all of its pretty flowers (after finally planting them all outside), and going to try spraying with baking soda now since I don't have anything else at the moment. It is good that neither the Red nor the Pink got affected by the Coral's PM. Just sad since the Coral was my fav. The small Pinks I bought from out-of-state have reddish spots on the leaves rather than holes in the leaves, and that's despite of them having been sprayed by the nursery they came from. Definitely planning on getting the Bayer granules from now on, although not so happy about needing to.

I have a landscape rose in front of our house between the sidewalk and the street called Snowbelt (aka Cassie). It is a polyantha dated 1997. We have several planted in a long strip. We put them in at least 12 years ago. It survives being flooded in the wintertime when the gutters & street overflow, gets walked on/by by people coming out of their cars, eaten by deer, and nonetheless blooms & blooms. I would not say it is completely "continuous", but it does bloom in frequent waves all Spring & Summer & Fall. It is blooming as we speak.

It is very healthy. Once a year I cut them with hedge clippers, and throw some Osmocote on them, and weed out the few tree seedlings that have sprouted from the street trees (mostly black walnuts). I have never sprayed them. The flowers are semi-double, small (about 1 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter) and bloom in clusters. I love love the blossoms - they remind me of those of the old hybrid musk Pax, except they are smaller. I want to call them "buttery", I don't know why. The plants get about 3 feet tall and 3 feet wide, and are a nice rounded shape, and are always covered with dark green dense foliage.

Anyway, if you want a care free landscape rose, I would definitely recommend this one. Makes a great hedge, too.

I would like to suggest Pretty Lady. It was was blackspot free as the Knockouts in my garden in the Houston, TX area and flowered profusely. I think that the flowers are a lot nicer than the Knockout series as well.

Around here, I see a lots of Knock Out planted in the center or rear of a bed with The Fairy planted in front. While neither are my personal favorites, they do go well together & offer a bit of contrast as opposed to a mass planting of just one or the other.

The Knock Out gets taller & wider, and with the lighter & shorter Fairy in front of it, makes a nice combination. Neither seem to require any care beyond watering a bit if it gets very dry for an extended period.

Double the rec for Pretty Lady. She is indeed pretty and blooms more profusely and consistently than any other rose in my garden. No disease, no fuss. I love her.

How well does The Fairy perform in the PNW? In the Boston area it's not "continual", but it's in bloom for most of the summer and into the autumn. It blooms in flushes, but when it's healthy and happy those flushes are long lasting.

(Oh yes. To my nose it's scentless, if scent is an issue.)
