Horse Manure aging question

After having read a few postings regarding the benefits of using horse manure as a fertilizer, I found a number of places from which to obtain this 'green/brown gold.' I have read that it is better to use hot composted horse manure, but my sources seem to run out rather quickly, so most likely this manure will not be hot composted. My question is: if this 'green' manure is kept in large plastic garbage cans with the lids occasionally sealed tight (during rainy times) will the manure have enough oxygen to hot compost. If this will work, how long does it take? If this will not hot compost the manure, how should I utilize the 'green' manure? How much should be spread around each rose?
