Hypericum berry seeds???

I dried some of the hypericum berries from my daughter's wedding. Any suggestions on growing some from seeds? Are the seeds the berries or are they the dust like things inside??

From the link:"Seed - sow spring in a greenhouse and only just cover the seed. The seed usually germinates in 1 - 3 months at 10Â°c. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and grow them on in the greenhouse for their first winter. Plant them out into their permanent positions in late spring or early summer, after the last expected frosts."

BTW, my seedlings didn't survive as I didn't winter them over in a greenhouse.

I should let you come and weed for me, hypericum (x. inodorum Elstead, Gladys Brabrazon, Summergold) self sow here to the point of being a nuisance. Dry the 'berries' on a plate, crumble to extract the seeds. Sow barely covered @ 50-55F eight to ten weeks before last frost, germination takes 30 -90 days, sometimes longer. That 50-55F temp is difficult for me indoors, you may want to sow these and place the pots outdoors. These grow very quickly once the seedlings are large enough (second set of leaves) to move into individual pots.

If the kind you are asking about is an H. x inodorum cultivar you may want to do some more reading about it as I am looking at a generally pretty good seeming print reference that - rightly or wrongly - is indicating USDA 7 for that cross. The one you tried before may also have been a kind that does not come through every Zone 6 winter - or maybe even most of them. A good policy is to assume that commercial sources in particular are rating plants one zone too hardy, so if a plant is rated USDA 6 it may not really be able to last in that zone. (Also if someone is saying a plant is hardy to that zone then really they are saying that is where it is on the borderline of hardiness, with there being failures likely at least a small part of the time).

What is this Lyon Series Hypericum I just saw at Lowe's today?

I just came back from Lowe's and they now have this "Premium Perennial" called "Lyon Series Hypericum". It has the lovely small yellow flowers of St. John's Wort, but the plentiful berries are this very beautiful pink color. It states that it gets to be 1-2' tall and 4' wide. I did a Yahoo and Google search and could not find much about it. I have seen other nurseries selling hypericum with orange berries and I could not find much about those either. Is this really a perennial, or more of a shrub? Can anyone tell me more about it please? Thanks in advance!
