Well, RR, where do I begin? First off, where did you get those seeds? Ebay, perchance? I hate to break it to you but you may well have been scammed. There are some very unscrupulous dealers on there and others who bought seeds this way ended up with anything from roses to radishes. You need to know that roses DO NOT grow true to variety from seeds. There are a very few exceptions in the wild rose category that will self seed and grow true but all other varieties, especially modern hybrid tea roses like Osira, do not. Each individual seed will be it's own new variety. It may look similar to either of it's parents or it may look like any of the roses that went into the parents breeding but it will not be the same rose. So Osira seeds will not grow Osira rose bushes. The only ways to to grow roses true to their original variety is by rooted cuttings or bud grafting. Basically cloning. Secondly, not knowing exactly what your growing set up is, I will tell you that, for the most part, roses HATE to be inside. It is very difficult to produce the right temperature, humidity and light combination that will make them happy and thrive. I have tried many things and never succeeded in keeping even the small mini roses alive indoors for more than a couple of months. Barely long enough for winter to end and I can plant them outside.where they immediately perk up. I do hybridize roses and start my seedlings in January inside under lights during the winter. But as soon as it's warm enough for them to go outside they do! Sometimes that's as early as March if at all possible. They always struggle until they get out in natural sunshine and humidities and then they take off like gangbusters! The first has bloomed now, and I've posted pictures. I'm doing a time lapse video of these growing, so I think I have the light too far away to accommodate the cameras. They are under a 7" humidity dome, and the light is on top. If I didn't have to accommodate the cameras, I'd put the light about an inch or two away from the top of the plant.

There's a good article by Malcolm Manners here on Paul Barden's website. I've successfully grown open pollinated (by bees or something other than me) roses using this technique. A couple things I'd add: If you write the name of the mother rose on the paper towel with a sharpie before you wet it, you can keep track of your seeds and keep them all in one bag (roll them up in the paper towel like you're rolling a burrito.) This is my second year growing from seed, and my seeds seemed to take a couple of months to get going--but once a particular batch of seeds started, it was like popcorn starting to pop--it was better to check every couple of days for new sprouts. Even if the rose is self-pollenated, you won't get something exactly like it--just as you are different from your parents, brothers, and sisters, baby roses will differ from their parents to a small or large degree. You might get lucky with a couple of seeds, but the more you start, the better luck you'll have at getting a plant you like. I had more than 100 babies this year, and only a small fraction look like they'll be something to keep. Professional breeders who are looking for something new and special find even fewer "keepers". It's a VERY fun hobby. The only problem is finding space for both your babies and the roses you want to buy!

As Diane said, VERY many of the seeds found on Ebay are NOT going to produce what they've pictured. Even if the photos aren't Photoshopped and totally misleading, it is impossible to exactly reproduce a rose from its seed. The only way to do that is through asexual reproduction, rooting, grafting or budding the plant so the genetic combination is as exactly identical as possible Seeds arise from sexual reproduction, therefore will not be identical to the original. Often, they can resemble the original, sometimes very closely, but not identically. But, those outrageously colored blooms are not real, nor even close to any reality. There have even been claims that "rose seed" received from some have produced radishes. Plus, if the seller is outside the US, you are Federally required to have a USDA-APHIS plant import permit to legally receive them. Don't be fooled and cheated out of your money. If you want rose seeds, pick hips from your plants or ask for them here on the forums. There are plenty of people here who will gladly share them with you, and you WON'T grow radishes from them! Kim
