Spring Plant Sale - Huntsville Botanical Garden is almost here!

Here's a heads-up to anyone interested:

SRPING PLANT SALE - HUNTSVILLE BOTANICAL GARDEN!

Members Only Sale: April 14, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Public Sale: April 15 & 16, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; April 17, 1-5 p.m.

A long-established Huntsville rite of spring, the Plant Sale offers annuals by the flat or pack; ferns, geraniums, a huge selection of herbs, cherished heirloom plants, houseplants, orchids, perennials, old-fashioned roses direct from the Texas Antique Rose Emporium, a huge assortment of vegetable plants, water plants, wildflowers, shrubs, vines, and trees. All varieties have been specially selected to thrive in North Alabama.

The Master Gardeners of North Alabama will again provide free pH testing - all they need is a baggie of dry soil collected from your garden. No gardening question will go unanswered, and all advice is free of charge. This year the Master Gardeners will be offering over 45 varieties of tomato plants and 33 varieties of pepper plants, as well a cucumber, eggplant, squash and many other vegetables.

I went yesterday and loaded up on tomato plants and herbs. Going back this morning to check out flowers and shrubs.

I was there from 2:30 - close...

Bought two carts full (and I'm going back on Sunday...)

I bought some of everything... assorted perennials, several "natives", two water plants, a southern lilac (it's bushy with tiny leaves and heavenly scented flowers), several red flowering tabacco, evergreen clematis, some cherry tomatoes, a few "bog" plants, some other flowering shrubs (including 4 different buddlieas) and numerous other plants.

I wanted a tri-color Japanese Maple, but they didn't have any this year.

Got to go back this weekend - "just in case"!

For those farther north, the Huntsville Botanical Garden Spring Plant Sale is also this weekend. It started today for members and tomorrow through Sunday for the public.
