Moss/Deer Experiment

I've been in my house a year now, in the Spring I put in about 20 roses of many varieties. I particularly like Mosses and purposefully included a number of them to see if the deer would leave them alone. I now report that the deer particularly like Moss roses as well. In fact they go after them more than all my others. My spiniest, Perpetual White Moss, is hit the most. You can't even see the stems from the spines and the deer just chew right into them.

The only thing I can guess is they like the balsam scent. They also are doing a number on my new fruit trees and my tomatoes. So far they have not decimated anything but we shall see what the winter will bring.
