this is an old english poem that "spoke" to me. maybe you will like it. author unknown.

There is peace within a garden

A peace so deep and calm

That when the heart is troubled

It's like a soothing balm

There's life within a garden

A life that still goes on

Filling the empty places

When older plants have gone

There's glory in the garden

At every time of year

Spring summer autumn winter

To fill the heart with cheer

So ever tend your garden

Its beauty to increase

For in it you'll find solace

And in it you'll find peace

Jan came by the other day and we were thinking good thoughts about you and Sandra, and how much we were looking forward to seeing ya'll this spring.

BTW - the Story of Black Eyed Susan from, American Meadows Ever wonder about one of AmericaÂs favorite wildflowers? Who was Black-Eyed Susan? Her story is one of the grand romantic tales of the wildflowers. And beyond legend, her name graces several of our most important and popular wildflower species. Legend says it all comes from an Old English poem of the post-Elizabethan era entitled simply, "Black-Eyed Susan," written by a very famous poet of the day named John Gay, 1685-1732. All in the downs, the fleet was moored, Banners waving in the wind. When Black-Eyed Susan came aboard, and eyed the burly men. "Tell me ye sailors, tell me true Does my Sweet William sail with you?" There are several stanzas, explaining that her William was on board, "high upon the yardarm", and quickly scrambled down for a fond farewell with his lady love. It seems he was off to the high seas, but promised ardently to be safe and true: Though battle call me from thy arms Let not my pretty Susan mourn; Though cannons roar, yet safe from harms William shall to his Dear return. Love turns aside the balls that round me fly Lest precious tears should drop from SusanÂs eye. This charming poem tells one of the great "Legends of Love" in our wildflowers, and every summer even today, it plays out just as the poem describes. HereÂs how it works: If you seed wild Sweet William (Dianthus barbatus) with common Black-Eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta), theyÂll bloom beautifully for you at exactly the same time.

Polyurethane over Old English Scratch Cover Oil on parquet floor?

An oil based penetrating stain/finish...like master oil may be your best bet. I used duraseal penetrating danish oil finish...or something like that...on a teakwood floor once. Oil repells other finishes like polyurthane. Wax is even worse because it doesnt soak into the wood and nothing sticks to wax. Oil eventually wears off or becomes part of the wood cellulose or dries or something. Master oil may work for you but I have never used it so am not sure. My recommendation would be to buy the 59 cent a foot birch-look laminate at Home Depotand lay it right over the parquet. But think about it, parquet is little blocks of wood...not veneered wood but solid wood so it isnt going to wear out like sanding veneer to the strand board layer underneath. Glued down right? It is just a pita because it has all those cracks, there is no grain direction for sanding, and now you’ve oiled it and poly wont stick to oil. Kick the can down the road and cover it with laminate. Or give the master oil a shot. But call a nice old guy at a hardwood supply place for better advice though. There are a couple of hardwood restore product on the home depot website that people have given good reviews for....or maybe that is what you used? Good luck.

How many of you are like this?

"Gardening is a kind of disease. It infects you, you cannot escape it. When you go visiting, your eyes rove about the garden; you interrupt the serious cocktail drinking because of an irresistible impulse to get up and pull a weed." (Lewis Gannit)

This "irresistible impulse" causes me to deadhead plants at nurseries, as well as in friends' gardens.

Oh God....how I love cocktail drinking and the pulling of weeds. What else does Heaven have to offer?! I'm definitely booking that trip!

Before I retired, I often found myself on the way into the city hall in the morning in my good suit, bent over weeding the beds around the door. Pulling weeds was a lot more fun than sitting in an office. I've heard it said (obviously by nongardeners) that people plant gardens to relax in, then spend all their time working in them. They just don't understand that weedin' and playin' in the dirt IS relaxing for us.
