i am planning to get rid of my grass -

yes, the whole lawn - as much as possible anyway - turn it into flowerbeds - was thinking of just using roundup - then someone suggested i ask if anyone wanted it - like on the exchange page, or on Freecycle. Do you think i should try that - or would people think it is too much trouble to come get?

As long as it is in good condition, I would think that there might be some takers out there willing to do the physical work in order to get a truckload of sod. Just make sure the you stipulate that they have to use a sod cutter. That way your soil won't be torn up too much.

What kind of grass is it?

I have ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE - but some friends are coming over this afternoon - and i am gonna get them to tell me - i WANT to say it is bermuda - to me, grass is grass - and a much better use of the ground is flowerbeds! :)

Yes, i figure a sod cutter will be the best way for someone to get it - although should someone want to do it with a spade, that is their thing! I am gonna till it up anyway.

We don't know where you live to know what ground covers will work. If you lived in Texas I would suggest not using a weed block but cutting the grass out with a power rake. Then plant Asiatic jasmine. It is a low growing, spreading, ground cover with fragrant flowers in the late spring.

It's looking almost definite that I will be going down next Saturday the 11th. I am hoping to be at excalibur by around 10:00 if I am able to get myself out of bed early enough. Allow a bl**dy great geranium palmatum to grow over them and choke them to death. At least, this method has worked well for me. As I no longer have any chives you could send me your spares? Only joking ;-)

Problem spots in my grass. What are they, how can I get rid of them?

Here are 2 pictures of the problem spots. What is this and what can i do about it. it grows twice as fast (if not more) then the surrounding grass, and it seems to get bigger every year. (there are just 2 small spots, i have a pretty big area of this in one corner)

Hey, Rosey. If someone wants it, be sure you set a date by which they must get it. There are a lot of procrastinators out there who say they want stuff but take their time getting it. Set a no-later-than date that is convenient for you so you still have time to clear the yard if they don't show up. If you use Round-Up or similar products, you must wait until the grass is green and we have 80 degree days so it will do its thing.

Rather than fool with giving it away, you may want to burn it now, turn it with a tiller, rake it well and then spray it as it starts to sprout new green growth. That way you are ahead of the game and can do a lot of the heavy work before it gets hot weather. So, what are you planting? - Terry

HEH HEH, Terry if Rosie burns it, Wetumpka may go too!!!! I have to pick on her only because she's special.
If you burn, you better have hoses around or may end up with toasted buns!! :O)

I like your idea Terry - heavy stuff before hot weather! And yes, Lynn, you might be right - if i am gonna burn, i would need to do it when the VFD is available!!! :)

Havn't decided exactly what all i am gonna plant - on the hillside on one side of my house, i plant to move all of my orange daylilies over there - i think it will be gorgeous!

OUt on the "terrace" - have daylilies and stuff i got last year at swaps, that i potted up - just gonna make big beds, with "walkways" in between them....have lots of ideas - but have no "eye" for design per se.

I want to make me a "tropical bed" - but i gotta research and see WHERE exactly will be the best micro-climate for that. Have LOTS of EEs to get out there in the ground, etc.

I guess i ought to play with my landscape software...
