What should I do about this climber?

I've learned over the years that roses never reach the height in my garden that their descriptions claim they will. So when I acquired Crimson Sky in 2007 (the year of its introduction), I didn't even provide something for it to climb on. I figured it would never get past four feet. Well, I was wrong. Despite the fact that this was a difficult summer for roses (extremely hot and dry), my Crimson Sky sent up new canes galore, and is about 7 feet tall. I stuck some rebar in the ground to give it some temporary support.

I've been growing Crimson Sky without protection, and have seen quite a bit of winter die-back. Should I prune before the winter? Do something else? This is the only climber I've ever had, other than William Baffin, which is quite different.

I took the first picture yesterday and the other last week--it's the fall flush I don't deserve. I want to do right by this rose; how do you suggest I handle her?

Thanks!
