Lavender Lassie made me happy today !

I picked a lovely spray of LL today---It was a cutting from Anniesbriars back in 2004----this picture was taken in 2009--she has survived neglect and gives us blooms every year---it is a lovely fragrant rose that I can see from my computer chair.

Dear Florence, that picture made me happy! I adore the color and the fluffy pompon shape. My only wish now is to be able to smell it.

Florence - Your Lavender Lassie is lovely. I ordered one from Heirloom's sale and hope that it does as good as yours, I'm glad yours is doing so good for you. It is such a beautiful rose!

Kippy, no rose is as good going up a post or pole as it can be when planted where it can be spread out horizontally. Not that some can't be forced to do the job, but none will provide the foliage and flower performance and cover they would if trained horizontally. Unfortunately, when any is grown vertically up a post like that, you end up with bare wood, which gets thick and old with time, and little to no foliage or flowers until the grow spreads out on the upper portions of the structure. A fence or wall would be much more conducive to getting an explosion of flowers from any rose than a pole, but it can be done. The best idea is to wrap the canes around the post as you train them upward. At least by wrapping them around it, you're interrupting the sap flow, stimulating more basal breaks than you're likely to see from canes growing straight up. Kim

Kasha thans, :) Karyn, i have 63 varieties, and alot of my own hybrids. I try not to keep to many hybrids, so when i get something reallky nice i get rid of one that wasnt as good. I usually grow about 100 hybrids at a time and choose about 5 of so to keep. Joyce, yes i know there is now tropicanna gold and tropicanna black. I iwsh i could get my hands on those, but unfortunately trinidad is limited :( Lucy nope i havent named that pinkl and cream hybrid yet. If i get something really nicer i might have to get rid of it though. because of limited garden space.

It has been a later start than usual. It is about a 2 weeks difference than the other years. Unfortunately, the growing season doesn't extend. I catch up with you guys and it seems to end around the same time. But I will make a note and see for sure in the fall. Ken, I would do a happy dance ,but my neighbors already have asked me if they should call an ambulance when they see me laying down on the lawn taking pictures. Everyone around me is in their 80's or plus. I entertain them enough as it is. Saija, I love your crinkles! :)

Ingrid---I'm not good at describing a fragrance but I just took a deep whiff and all I can think of is "Easter"----it is delicious-----

Sara-Ann-----It truly is a lovely rose---this picture was taken in 2009----sadly it doesn't look that good this year for many reasons---hopefully next year I will be able to take better care of her---

I didn't know she could look that beautiful. Thanks for sharing that with us. It's a gift to have some roses inside I think. Sometimes I take some fragrance roses to a lady that runs a storage yard where we used to have a boat. She lives there all alone and has no plants there except for a few houseplants in the office and in her trailer. It makes her so happy when I bring roses on my way to somewhere.

Wonderful pic, Florence. A great rose, I really like mine. I prune it back to control size, it likes to grow big!
