Do you remember your first time?
Comments (16)jumpin4joy roflmao...now THAT is funny Mike you're my kind of man....still with the same one *g* But I don't blame you. As she is a beauty and hard to resist. I still got lots to learn. To my advantage goes that I do not have to work at a paying job lol. Which made it vey easy to get to know the angels and their habits etc. But most of all is being here that made me understand a lot about the needs and warning signs if things can and will go wrong with them. So you all are part of my first season's success. Joyce I am sure next year you will see blooms! I have seen the most amazing single blooms..flushes in this forum by so many people that are fairly new. It's not just me ;-) Thanks for all the wonderful compliments you made me Lucy...See MoreDo you remember your first plane ride?
Comments (47)My funniest experience in an aircraft happened while I was stationed in Germany. The Air Force used to use a Kaman HH43 helicopter for an emergency responce crash vehicle. They had a huge 6ft diameter round metal pressure sphere that was loaded with firefighting foam which they carried on a hook under the helicopter. Two firemen were inside the helicopter with the Asbestos firesuites on. When an aircraft crashed they would fly in quickly and set the firebottle down and the firemen would jump out and grab the foam line, then the helicopter would hover over the burning aircraft using the downdraft to blow the flames back while the firemen laid down a path of foam till they could get to the aircraft and pull the crew out. One day my buddy, who was a crewchief on the helicopter called me and said they were going up on a training flight and asked if I would like to ride along, so off I went. As I boarded the helicopter I saw the pilot & co-pilot up front, my buddy, the crew chief, two firemen and another guy who worked at the base chapel that was coming along for the ride. We were all seated in the back while the helicopter just flew around in circles close to the base when suddenly we heard a radio call on our headphones. They had a crippled F4 Phantom coming in with an engine fire, so the pilot told us he had to go back and hook up the firebottle and while they were hooking it up I and the guy from the chapel would have to jump off. The chopper landed and while we were jumping off one of the ground crew hooked the cable on the lifting hook and the chopper took off again, but when it was about 50ft off the ground one of the firemen jumped out, bouncing off the ground from 50ft and broke his leg. I didn't have a clue as to why he just mysteriously jumped out, but later that afternoon while sitting in the NCO club my buddy the crew chief came in and he told me. It seems that while we were flying around the guy from the chapel had got airsick, but not wanting to appear like a whimp to the other guys onboard he didn't ask for a burp bag, instead, he had barfed in the firemens boot and while we were jumping off the firemen was pulling his boots on. By the time he realized that the guy had barfed in his boot he tore off after the guy without even thinking and jumped out....LOL...See MoreWhat prompted your very first discussion topic-do you remember?
Comments (33)I discovered the gardenweb side back in the late 90's when I was trying to look up information on shade gardening. in 2002, we were in the late stages of our kitchen remodel and our washing machine died. While researching them, I found the home side of garden web, the appliance forum and the kitchen forum. I kept up with the kitchen forum for a little while (lurking) and I posted a couple of before/ after pics of the kitchen (a small 1957 kitchen). Then began lurking again in 2004 when we bought a house with a very 80's kitchen. Lurked a bit in the bathroom forum (I should have delurked and asked opinions when we did our master bath - made some mistakes - oh well) Posted a little in the kitchen forums in 2007-2008 or so when we remodeled our kitchen - eventually got bored and started lurking in the HD forums instead. I mostly lurk in the background, mostly because I've been doing it so long... but feel like I know all the regulars. While I mostly lurk and "almost posted" a few times, I've gotten a lot of inspiration over the years - not just things but ways of deciding on what to use and do....See MoreDo You Remember When You Got Your First Typewriter?
Comments (31)Typing was required in 9th grade at my Overseas dependents school. Being run by the military where men typed everyone had to learn. Their thinking was all of us were going to college or the military and you would need typing. Smart actually. I sucked big time. As an over achiever sort of student I had perfect grades. I made a D my first semester. I did not get much better. The harder I tried the worse it was. My fingers had minds of their own. It was a mess. Doomed. My sisters are good at it. Still I got a typewriter for graduation. A portable Smith-Corona-in blue of course with the hard case. One of my younger sisters still has it last I heard. You might think this was preparation by my parents for college but my mother did not believe in college for girls. She saw it as a waste of time and money. You were going to get married or some such nonsense. I am not sure why I got a typewriter. I was grateful when computers came along. I know where the backup key is automatically. I spend a good deal of time backing up but I do type much better than I used to. We had electrics in the library at college but I never mastered using one-took a light touch. Fortunately the College of science did not approve of papers for undergrads. They saw them as a waste of professors time. I am not convinced of that. Still I didn't have to do much typing....See MoreRelated Professionals
