My Tamora is in a pot and blooms almost continuously despite our tremendous heat and humidity. I pamper her to DEATH, lots of soil amendments, lots of water, and feedings every 3 weeks. I spend more time caring for my two DA's than I do all my other roses (Bucks, chinas, teas, and polyanthas) combined. Well, I do fuss over Maggie and Souv. de St. Ann's too. I am growing others in pots, and the ones which have slowed their repeat this year are all getting moved up one size pot. So you might also take a look at size of pot vs. size of plant, maybe she just needs more room!

oxmelodye... ...Now that's interesting that yours is ex Beales as the plant I grew a long time ago, circa 1990-1995 was the same Mons. Tillier from Beales, listed as a small Tea rose.... however, it soon started to throw out long canes as if wanting to climb and it didn't seem quite right, but I didn't know any different then.... ...but what puzzles me here is that my plant doesn't look like the one I remember it, and now you've said that the flowers on your plant are a little less full.... and that's exactly how my Mons. Tillier was, or how I remember it as being.... it was more semi-double and blousy, less full... for these reasons I'm questioning the association with Marie Nabonnand that's been put foward in recent years... ..of course, memory plays tricks and it was a long time ago... and I wasn't so intent on studying roses close up that I do today.... even so, a slight question mark....

Cat on your lap definitely takes priority, maybe you've never had a cat, Jin? (LOL!) Anyway, I'd love to see photos, too,and can't criticize Melissa because I don't "do" photos either. I have 2 own-root Noellas. The older one has only one cane, and has never put out basals, and is in fact hardly growing,but it's in a bad spot and didn't get off to a good start in the first place. I just put out a new Noella,that looks very vigorous and good, but still has only one cane; I hope that changes, because I agree that it makes you worry about the plant's potential longevity. On the other hand, my old Souv. de Mme. Leonie Viennots both are huge, but with very few basals. Also I think I remember reading a post from Christopher (Aqua Eyes) where he mentions a few of his roses that just have that growth habit, and it's no big deal. But this does remind me to put yet another item on my "to do" list-put alfalfa hay on my Noellas. There are a lot of sun-burn issues in my garden as well; I think this contributed to killing off my second Annie Laurie Mc Dowell; the first was too small when I planted it out and died ,but this one was much bigger, and had been grown in a pot for a year before. So now I've got this 3rd Annie,and I think it's been in it's pot for about three seasons. I just re-potted it, and it looks like it'll stay in the pot for another year.This rose is reportedly vigorous, but it sure is taking it's time ...

Here is a picture of my PB in late May: My garden is a mess. I am sorry. I learned something interesting watching this rose grow. The tuft of small stems near the ground is last year's growth. That growth is like a wide, low growing shrub; almost horizontal. This year the rose is sending up vertical canes, like a climber that it is. If you follow each cane from the base to its tips you will see buds. The canes are getting ready to bloom. The same is true for Guirlande d'Amour: You can see last year's horizontal growth (which already had a round of blooms) and then vertical canes blooming. This picture is in early July. I had a huge rambler named Tausendschon that I lost to RRD. It did the same thing. I saw at least 5 years of only horizontal growth, but the mound was 4-5 feet high. Then one day it just started growing upwards with huge arching canes. I am guessing because it is (was) meant to be a very large plant it took several years to gather energy for upward growth. I dont have pictures of the rambler that illustrate the two different habits in its life history. But here are some pictures i posted of it last year. Now I can clearly see that there are certain climbing roses that spend some time growing horizontally before doing any vertical growth. I am growing a large climber, Jasmina. It is the most darndest horizontal-with-stiff-canes rose I have ever seen. As I watched this rose grow from a rooted cutting I would ask why would anyone call this rose a climber???? There were long stiff canes (with sharp thorns) lying horizontally like spokes of a wheel that I could not fathom lifting to tie to a trellis. I remember searching the rose Forum for any information on Jasmina and read that Lily had uprooted and thrown away her Jasmina. It was frustrating seeing this long horizontal growth that you cannot do anything with. I bet Jasmina is going to send out vertical canes soon. Today I saw some strong 45 degree and 60 degree canes. So much rambling 🤦‍♀️
