Peggy, DRY heat definitely fries it. Humid heat, I don't know.
But remember when you think of it, that it's not a Tea Rose. It's almost certainly 'Barcelona,' an early HT.

Beautiful thing, tho -- where it will grow.

I have it in Florida, Tampa Bay area, and it is partially in the shade so flowers do not dry out too fast.

However, right now it's not blooming. Maybe too much shade. I love the color and it has a wonderful smell and the flowers are on the small side. I do consider it a worthwhile rose even if I can only enjoy it for a short time

Francis Dubreuil grows well for me. I've had one that did very well for me, but had removed after it was damaged during high winds (along with all my other roses - hybrid teas), that came through our area from hurricaines a couple of years back. I wanted to change things around in the yard anyway, knew I could get another, so I took it out.

I planted a new one this spring (from Chamblees), and it is wonderful. He is on the east side in full sun, and seldom gets a cruddy leaf. (NO spray). This tiny plant blooms in flushes all the time. The flowers do blacken some in the heat, but he smells so divine, and is still very pretty, in my eyes. This is a rose you can smell from far away. I would not be without this rose. The foliage and shape of the bush is pretty. The color looks nice when planted near pink roses.

I haven't tried it yet, but the blooms might be nice if cut for the house before the heat gets to them, perhaps floated in a bowl.

This is not a perfect rose for Florida. It cooks all summer in the intense heat, even in morning only sun. However, it is a glorious thing the other nine months of the year! Mine is own root, much better now in its second year. It covers itself with a full flush every few weeks, and in the Fall and Winter, the scent just wafts all around the backyard...Incredible.

I would have it for that alone, but it does pretty well in water if you cut them early in the am.

I think to have it glorious for 9 months of the year is well worth it. I'm not at my best in the summer heat either!

I'm thinking about this rose. I think I have the right place as far as sun/shade goes, but how big does it get?

It fries here, but I've taken out a lot of roses because of the way they crisp up and I would never take out FD. The fragrance is so amazing.

Sherry, I've never seen one over about 2.5-3 ft tall.

It really is worth it for the scent alone. My friend just stopped by and stuck his nose in the vaseful of flowers on the table. He got one whiff of FD, plucked it out of the water, and begged me to take it home with him!

Of course I did, grinning, and pointing directly outside the kitchen window where it grows. Another person converted!

Sherry, The first one I had grew to be about 4 feet tall and around 3 or 4 feet wide after 2 years growth.

I remember smelling one up north and the fragrance IS to die for. Maybe I can put one in a pot and move it out of the intense sun during the hottest part of the day during the summer. Hmmm.....

He likes a little pampering, in the way of lots of organic fertilizer and compost, and plenty of water in the summer -every day, unless you get a ton of rain. Actually, all the old roses thrive on that, but Francis will reward you with prettier foliage and more flowers if he gets those two things. If he's neglected some, he'll still be fine, as I haven't been out in the heat much this year, although I gave him some "goodies" about 6 weeks ago. Slow release fertilizer is a HUGE help this time of year. I have all my roses on automatic drip irrigation.
