How would you describe The Prince's fragrance?

The Prince was planted in Spring, and is now getting its first respectable flush. I got a really good whiff this morning and got a strong lemony citrus smell.

Now, is this equivalent to one of the smell "categories?" I've been told that Chrysler Imperial or Gertrude Jeckyll is a good representative of the Damask scent. I'm wondering if the same is true of The Prince.

Thanks

Eric

Eric, I get a fruity note on top of Damask. I'd say Wm. Shakespeare 2000 is more pure Damask (to my nose anyway!). How do you like The Prince? It's in its second year in our garden and has had 2 flushes so far this year. The first flush was mostly single blooms but the second was good sized clusters. I'm amazed at the black buds. Last year we were worried that they were dead when we first saw them!

    Hi Ruth,

I went back and smelled again, definitely getting the damask scent now. The fruity smell is stronger in the morning. I planted mine this Spring. The thrips have been bad up until recently, just now getting some good blooms. It's mostly upright growth, I've heard it has almost an hybrid tea habit.

I have some blooms and they do have a strong citrus scent now. But in the spring, it was a bit more damask.

I love The Prince. I would say that my Gertrude is a step stronger fragrance than the The Prince, but seems to be in the same venue. My Prince has two gorgeous, open blooms at the moment and 6 or 7 waiting in line. I did a final season fertilize two weeks ago and this was one of the roses that responded best to it.
