I'm thinking of Mango Salsa OSO Easy ...

This is for you Karl ~ Unexpectedly we cut down a very old Crabapple tree due to breaking a major limb. The Hosta site has to be dug up very soon as they all burned.

In planning for what to do w/ this 10:30AM to sundown sunny 15' X15' pie shaped site ~ I thought of Ornamental Grass! I came home w/ 3-3gal pots of Shenandoah Switch & picked up 2 more to replace the large Hostas planted along the outer curve of the site.

I saw the sample ~ Japanese-garden inspired setting in the nursery & was impressed by the Rose & Shenandoah Switch Grass combo they had ~ they used KO Orig roses. ! I'm wondering about *Mango Salsa* OSO Easy Rose bush. Do you have it in your collection?

Great Karl - I'm thinking of planting kind of in between & slightly front of SSG once I get all the burned Hostas dug up. SSG has some red blades & beautiful airy flower plumes.

How would the color stand the full-sun exposure do you think. I wish I could like *Cherry Pie* I like that she is single petalled but I'm not a pure red person!

6 OSO Easy babes arrived from IN safely w/ just 2 small stems broken ~ no big deal. I temporarily/promptly parked them in containers (prep'd in anticipation). I meant to keep them there for at least a week to get over the stress of the travel but today was a gift from Ma Nature ~ cool & sunny ~ lower 80s temp w/ nice breeze & clouds to break the sun, intermittently ~ couldn't ask for a better day, so all 6 OSO Easy (4 Mango Salsa & 2 Paprika) babies are now in their permanent homes! I felt like Christmas in August! BTW ~ Peachy Cream baby since planting in the ground (Mid Jul) has been a non-stop bloomer ~ started by producing 1 bud at a time daily, now for the first time has a stem w/ multiple buds to flash soon! Honey Bun has been in the 1-bud-a-day stage as well as Paprika #1 (heat-wave may have delayed adjustment time)! FWIW

18 to a flat except Mango Salso. They only will have 2 3/8 inch liners at 32 to a flat. The others are 4" liners. I don't own a nursery. I got tired of no one in NW Indiana offering own root hardy roses instead of the bare root varieties, most of which are not suited for cold winter climates. I root cuttings and offer them to locals. This year I was approached by a couple of smaller garden centers wanting to offer hardy own root roses that are suited for our area. An arboretum in my area was given some of these as full sized plants for their rose garden. I found out the name of the wholesale nursery and ordered the minimum of 15 flats. I do have a tax number so I can buy wholesale. I'm sticking my neck out on these as I'm not sure I'll be able to get rid of all them plus my own cuttings. I'm sorry I couldn't provide a more positive answer. It's not mango but perhaps similar enough to be useful for what you want. Have you tried this cannable peach salsa recipe posted by KatieC? It's very good. Thanks Dave & Melissa. I don't remember where I got the mango-tomato salsa recipe (I know I didn't make it up, I'm not that clever or experienced in canning). I am sure I will find it as soon as I get all my tomatoes processed this year. Happens all the time. What is it about green mangoes that make it safe where ripe ones are not? I have to say the unripened mangoes don't sound particularly appetizing. I may freeze instead of can. If I do, I make it as if I was going to eat it fresh & then put in freezer jars, correct? No additional stuff needed (like extra acidity). Thanks again! Karen

Checked the red blades of SSG ~ looked to me more rusty-red, so I think Mango Salsa would work if she can maintain her color a bit longer ~ if she progresses to cream as her blooms mature. I'll keep checking more.

It may be Sept before I can start the planting project ~ would the li'l OSO Easy babies have enough time to settle before Winter ~ end of Nov usually or best wait 'til Spring?

I have decided on the Mango Salsa even if I have not found anyone w/ experience ~ considering the very recent intro ~ I believe just in 2010 right Karl?

Temps dropped by near 30degs we went ahead & planted all 5 Shenandoahs ~ just our luck a huge down-pour followed by a whole day of intermittent dousing! We are also getting a good week ahead w/ temps in the mid-80s!

Wishing the same blessings for all in the heat-wave umbrella!!!
