How do I post photos??

I want to be able to post photos without having to dumb them down too much so the resolution is lost. How do you all do it? I see so many beautiful pictures and they must be more than 61k with such clear resolutions.

Please fill me in.

It didn't work.

I was trying to show you the HTML syntax for posting a photo.

Use this statement:

img src= "imageURL"

but enclose the statement in

The image must reside on a website. I use photobucket.com, which is free.

Here is something that I saved when I asked, hope it helps. Here are three methods to post photos in either the Gallery or Discussion area. I see enough people asking I thought I would post it. Ok, you have two easy ways to do it and one hard way 1) For quick posting: Go to www.tinypic.com. Click the "Browse" button to find the picture you want to post from your computer. Select the picture then click "Host It". After a few moments (depending on connection speed and size of the image) a few tags will appear at the bottom. Simply copy and paste the entire contents of the "Tag" entry into your forum post. Viola, you have posted a picture. 2) Recommended:Start a photobucket album (www.photobucket.com). Every time you post a picture, you will have a "Tag" entry to cut and paste into your forum posts. This is the benefit over the other online photo album sites. 3) Most difficult: Go to a picture you have posted in your Webshots or other album. Right click on the photo and choose "Properties". You will see the image url. Copy this URL and paste it into your forum post. In front of the url add (img src=" including the quote but change the ( to a At the end of the pasted url add "> including the quote. This process will work to link to any photo on the internet. This will link back to your Webshots or other hosted photo. That is photo posting 101. Good Luck. A word of caution. Do not post a link back to tinypic in the "Optional URL Link". At times, people post undesirable pictures on tinypic.com. You do not want anyone to accidently browse to the next anonymous post to find an undesired photo. craig

I assume your pics are stored somewhere on your computer.....right? From there, go to photobucket.com ( I believe you need to register)....imageshack.us ( no registration needed, just upload from the main page)........you need a free photo hosting service, personally I use imageshack, but anyways. From there, you should see somewhere that says to upload/browse/host photos on your computer, find them, upload them, and paste the html tag in your posts here.......the tag should read at the start a href then a website name.....the code will start with pointy brackets.....I cant write it here, because it will automatically insert a pic. After you have pasted it here in Gardenweb, you will not see the pic until you click the preview message button at the bottom of the page. Now the only thing I cant answer you about is whether a mac stores picture files as something other than the ones recognized on a windows pc (jpg, gif, tiff....etc) If that is the case, someone else will chime in that possibly uses a mac....lol. A few of the forums on Garden Web do allow one to post a photo. The "Kitchen Table" does not. As explained by the poster above, this forum provides a place to store a link to an image file that resides somewhere else on the internet. But that is not all bad. The forums in Garden Web that permit images limits the file size to 60 K bytes. That is barely enough to display low level photos, enough for you to get an impression of what the picture is about, but not enough to show a high quality picture of any size. That limitation disappears for linking to an external site where an image is stored. Any limitation therein is set by the arrangement between you and the external site such as "Photobucket".

You can post up to 500 kb photos on the 'Photo Galleries' -- see the link on the green bar above. Then use donn's instructions for putting the photo into your post:

Right click on the photo in the Galleries, copy the Location (starts with http://photos.ivilliage....) --this is the URL. You will paste it into the string like so:

When you type, leave out all the spaces except the one between img and src. Your URL will be completed where I stopped with ivillage....

This is a question that has been answered hundreds of times on these forums. A simple search will reveal that an excellent tutorial is available on the frequently asked questions (FAQ) pages.

I give Laperouse credit for at least broaching the subject of file size. As I said on another recent thread, photos can be either a blessing or a curse to forum postings. Monster photos which include the HUGE files to support their super resolution are becoming a major problem on the Internet. It is senseless (and rude) to include this much data when all of the photos are only displayed at 72 pixels. If you are going to post photos -- especially multiple photos -- learn how to reduce the file size. It is easy to do and is offered free at many websites. Additionally, if you wish to display multiple photos, you really should either just provide clickable thumbnails or provide clickable links inserted into the text.

The real question to be asking here is how small can I make the desired image file and still get my point across? A common feature offered on many cameras and imaging programs is an email feature that will automatically reduce the image resolution to acceptable size for an email Â which is also perfect for inclusion in these forums. It is also preferable to crop your photos to eliminate all of the clutter that really adds nothing to the photo message other than adding needless, time consuming file bulk.
