Brunnera Jack Frost MIA... too soon to worry?
Comments (7)Too early... Brunnera don't fully leaf out until after they bloom, so once the greenery makes its appearance and fills out a bit, the show starts - it's pretty quick process once they start coming up. It has been bitterly cold in my area this winter so the plants may be a little slower to rev up this spring. Don't worry, nature has its own timetable, when it's time it's time...and when it's time this spring it's going to be GORGEOUS with all the moisture we've had!...See MoreBrunnera Jack Frost
Comments (5)I've had 3 of them for several years now. Mine get only a few hours of early morning sun. They're planted under our Linden tree and are by my hostas. They have been doing great. When I first got them, I had put them on my deck until I could get them planted in the ground. They didn't like all the sun they got there. The leaves started to burn. Once I got them in a shady area, they did fine. Like Anitamo mentioned, they like it on the moist side. They don't like to dry out. They'll let you know by wilting. But I do my best not to let that happen, though it has. When that happens I give them a good deep watering and in less than an hour, they'll perk up again. I mulch them and water them deeply, usually once a week. If you get a lot of mid to upper 80s or higher, I'd water them more often. I love these plants even without the flowers. They really brighten up a shady area. Enjoy! Kat...See MoreBrunnera disease? Black spots on Jack Frost
Comments (2)Your problem may be caused by foliar nematodes, common on shade-grown plants, cause angular spots on brunnera and heuchera, irregular blotches on anemone and salvia, and wedge-shaped dead patches on hosta. Signs of foliar nematodes may be glimpsed in leaf water droplets with a good hand lens. Hope this helps. Ian Here is a link that might be useful: Foliar Nematodes...See More'Jack Frost' Brunnera
Comments (6)I just got a Brunnera last year (dug it up from mom-in-law's place when she sold the house), and I don't know how it will continue to do. It grew well last year in a spot by my front walk, which gets shade for half the day and filtered sun through some roses for the afternoon/evening. It's looking a little scrawny, with small leaves so far, but it's been such a cold but dry spring that I'm not sure if it's the weather or if it's not liking the spot. It's in soil that's a mixture of native clay-ish stuff with compost mixed in. Here's a pic from last year in early April:...See Moremxk3 z5b_MI
