What is this plant with orange fruit?

We got the seeds from a relative. It sort of looks like kumquat, but the fruit is completely smooth. It's two years old right now and it has a woody stem. We keep it potted.

I'm wondering about the size scale (and smell/taste too, if any) however if no-one has tried it, please don't rush in, it might be ornamental not edible.
I'm wondering about some form of solanum - jerusalem cherry or peppa orangina?

Checked out the pictures of Solanum pseudocapsicum. It is too short and bushy to be my plant. My plant is tall with a single stem like a sunflower. The fruits form right above the leaves. Thanks for your help though, I appreciate any guesses! I know it is hard without a photo.

Thank You carol23, that's it. I've found out that around here it's called Hooker's Fairy Bells; here's a reference from a local Middle School. http://ghs.gresham.k12.or.us/science/ps/nature/plants/3petal/lily/fbell.htm When I told my daughter what she had growing in the back woods she laughed and said that she was going to tell all her friends that she had hookers in her woods and they had bells on :-) Thanks again for your rapid and accurate response, Michael

Paw Paw needs two to pollinate each other. The fruit are too big for most birds, actually. I've never had one, but I hear they are good. Supposedly like guava, banana, or custard apple. Are you in the city itself? There are a lot of trees that just don't do well close to the road. How much space do you have? Allegheny serviceberry (Amelanchier laevis) are popular with birds and technically edible. I've heard hummingbirds like crab apple flowers, and you can make them into jam or use them to pollinate your regular apple. Hawthorn attract hummingbirds and make decent street trees but you can't eat the fruit.

Looks to me like it could be a Jerusalem cherry (and if so, please don't taste them, as they're poisonous).

Peppa orangina I'm not familiar with.

I agree it looks very similar to Solanum pseudocapsacum. Jerusalem Cherry.

I agree. Solanum pseudocapsacum. Sold as Winter Cherry here.

'What does it taste like?' It's inadvisable to try unidentified fruit.
