Using bottles as mini greenhouses.....what bottles work?

I know a lot of people use empty gallon jugs to use as mini greenhouses when planting out with the bottom cut off. But the problem I didn't learn this until after I cut the tops off about 15-20 jugs so I could use them for pots. I was wondering if I could use a water bottle like a half liter (16.9 oz) standard water bottle as a mini greenhouse?

Or would it be too small? I am not looking into this being a long term protector maybe 2-3 weeks at most protection from the elements to give them a good head start. Also are the ridges in the bottles to worry about, might they create uneven distribution of light - (hot spots)?

Thanks!
