Done it, still doing it. I never learn.

I put the seeds in shoeboxes and keep the shoeboxes in a dry, cool place.
A lot of what I'm sowing this year are seeds from previous years. Although I'm now purposely trying not to make a practice of seed hoarding, I have a backlog. But the good part is, any seed I bought this year, I pretty much have sown....well, except for a few...lol

Seeds can keep a long time. Scientists actually sprouted some rye seeds found in the pyramids. But, alas, some seeds are only good for one year, so they say. The percentage of those that will germinate will go down year-by-year for any seeds you save.

For extra containers ...Did you see the post about planting in paper bags? You can rub a little canola oil on ordinary paper bags to help them keep their moisture, fold down the tops to make them shorter, and put a few holes in the bottom first. Use just like any other container except that you might want to stabilize them in a box while transporting, and then plant the whole thing.

This is what I'm going to try next week, as an experiment. I'll let you know how it goes.

greengardener07 I went to the recycling center last night after work and filled the trunk of my car!! It was like going to a store that specialized in wintersowing containers!! Big ones,tall ones,little ones,long ones... LOL!! Is there one near you?

In case you want to sow them all this year: I used clear sterlite containers with holes in the lids and bottoms (I used a wood burner to make holes), then I used styrofoam cups (with a hole in the bottom) to plant the individual seeds. I bought most of the containers for around 5 or 6 dollars. I have around 24 cups in each container. I honestly believe I have had better germination than when I used 2 liter bottles.

I usually trade seeds I have extras of, or keep them for up to 3 years.
I bought a small 3 drawer sterlite container 1 for veggies, 1 for annuals and 1 for perennials and put a slica packet you get in shoe boxes.

For extra containers other than milk jugs I use plastic bathroom cups, slit on the bottoms put them in either a big sterlite storage container with holes in the bottom and binder clipped slitted plastic on top. I also use alot of aluminium baking pans usually used for fruit cakes with slits on the bottoms and the plastic top slitted for spring sowing annuals.

You have some very good advice here on how to get some more containers. I want to mention that last year, I really focused on perennials, and was out of containers and time for annuals. Thank goodness for the perennials that bloom first year, and the few annuals I WSed or direct-sowed. But I still had a lot of areas that just had nothing going on visually (but were full of perennial babies getting bigger) so my advice is: make SURE you get some annuals started!

Okay, I usually just lurk in the shadows and take it all in but I want to put my two cents in..if I may. I took a bread crate from the local supermarket filled it with 35 16oz. styrofoam cups (with drain holes in bottoms). I then took a huge plastic bedding bag and slipped it over the bread tray. put holes in top and bottom and voila!!

I just picked up some 1 quart storage containers the dollar store. They are about 6" deep, 10: wide and 1' long. I am going to try them out and see what happens.

While I was there I saw some new seed packets, by Plantation Seeds. Anyone every try this company? The seeds I saw were perennials like lamb's ear and holly hock.
