Will the Comte de Chambord work for me?
Comments (25)Hi tacotac, I used the same exact photo as my inspiration for my front yard fence area. I went with the DA Mayflower, pictured here on the inside of the fence. It has done very well this (its first) summer. Fragrant, repeat bloomer. This picture is from sometime in July and it still has blooms and buds going today. I obviously can't speak to its winter hardiness yet, but I'm very happy with its performance so far. According to the DA site, it is supposed to be completely resistant to blackspot, which I have found to be true this year. Oh, and please ignore the weeds and the shoddiness of the fence. Yours appears to be in much better shape! This post was edited by Arlene_82 on Wed, Oct 8, 14 at 11:44...See MoreComte de Chambord
Comments (11)Kalimera Daisy! You have given me much information.Thank you.I think I've made a mistake with WS. I didn't think he gets this big.I have planted him too close to jubilee celebration.Should i take him out and plant him again a little bit further? He has already begun to sprout new shoots(am i using the right words?)I don' t want him to become so big though.Would pruning control him?I wanted these two together because I thought WS's continious blooming would compensate CdC....See MoreComte de Chambord - rose phyllody?
Comments (4)A somewhat faster cure using sulfur is mixing equal parts sulfur and iron sulfate and putting it into 3-4 holes feeder roots deep around the drip zone. Cover and water regularly if done during the dry season. Works for any chlorotic plant even for trees. Ammonium sulfate plus iron sulfate also works, very fast, doing it in the same way but it is easy to overdo the ammonium sulfate and shock the roots, plus the effect doesn't last as long....See MoreGertrude Jekyll and Comte de Chambord
Comments (12)Thank you. Dave, CdC has similar fragrance, well worth growing for the scent. It's very strong and sweet, like perfume. jjkOC, I don't irrigate as it is quite rainy here, and spring snow melt saturates the ground. The blooms are often soggy in June, but the plants seem to appreciate the rain....See Morebuford
