Help! I think I made a WS boo boo!

I bought some morning glory and moonflower seeds, and the packet said to soak them in water overnight. I realize now I should've just ignored that and WS them in containers and put them out. But, we got 11 inches of snow and I haven't been able to do anything with them, so the seeds are sprouting! Should I pot them up and just try to grow them inside, or can they still be WS? It is supposed to dramatically warm up here in the next few days, with temps this weekend in the 70's! Thanks!

In that case I would pot them up. I started some from seed in a container last year. As soon as they got two real leaves I planted them out. They did great. I'm going to try WS this year. You should be able to put them out after frost.

Thanks, I'm just wondering how big they'll get since I've got 5-6 weeks until last frost. Are they going to be huge?

I received my Phylostachys Atrovaginata today. It is going to be 30 F tonight so it is in my unheated greenhouse. I am thinking of either getting some topsoil delivered to form a mound or building a HYPERTUFA container. I would build a framework of wood and chickenwire and coat with a cement sand and peat/ sawdust mix. I think rhizome barrier may be cheaper though. It will take years before I have to worry about rampant spread though.

Glad to hear they perked up for ya. I agree that transplanting over the winter isnt a good idea, but sometimes you HAVE to. I just had to this morn, like you Caren, I had roots galore coming out of the bottom of some brug pots. Same thing last year too, and everything went well. If ya have to then ya have to. As long as the next size pot up isnt too big. IMO I think it is better to pot them up once the roots start coming out of the bottom..if you wait too long, you'll either risk blocking the drainage holes with the roots, or damage those out of the pot roots getting them back thru the drainage holes to unpot it. And if you cut the roots, your plant will really go into shock. Linda..beer formula?? pray tell....

Red Cascade sizing boo boo ...help please

Hi Dale, I'm not sure if you're saying that the only place you have for red cascade is the pot she's in, or that you're not sure if it's a good place for this rose and you think it should be somewhere else. My advice is leave it, and it'll be fine, even if it's not doing much now. As stated, it will cascade!! I think this is a rose that can have many uses. I have mine on the ground - not climbing -- in my rock garden, because I thought it would be nice to have it "cascade" over the rocks. It did absolutely nothing the first year, now doing great, and it's not too short for a hanging pot! I would keep yours in your hanging pot, and wait. It should be fine. Debbie

You should be good, but think of some climbing sticks put into pots and pinch when you have 10 sets of leaves.

Thanks lindalana! I put them in some chinese take out containers (plastic bowls) last night just to get them in some soil, and put them in a southern facing window. Once they sprout should I pot them up individually? Great idea on the climbing sticks and pinching them back, didn't know to do that.

You can also set them out each morning and bring them in at night if the temperature is threatening to drop below 34 or so. They'll harden off this way and you won't have too many issues with damp soil or fungus.
