I second Charles's suggestion on well drained soil. Most bulbs will rot if the ground is constantly soggy considering most of these bulbs originate in the Mediterranean region where it is dry practically year-round. Chionodoxa forbesii is about 6" tall and bloom in April in my region. Allium 'Gladiator' is about 4' tall and blooms in late May-early June. Tall Alliums like 'Gladiator' snap very easily if the flower head becomes leaden with rain. Asiatic lilies are very easy to grow. They bloom in June in my area. They are not fragrant but multiply much faster than Oriental Lilies. They are also less prone to virus. The colors are more vibrant than Orientals. Have fun planting bulbs. :-)

I certainly wouldn't want to discourage you but the genus Calla is composed of plants that grow in a forest swamp. According to the Royal Botanic Garden Kew in London they commonly thrive between the edge of the forest and a raised bog. Basically they are bog/swamp plants rather than a house plant. They can be grown in damp sphagnum moss since they also commonly live as a creeper in streams and ponds. They must stay damp and love bright light which may make growing them indoors in dim light difficult. The plants are members of the family Araceae so try looking up the International Aroid Society and do some research on that site. Thanks for the responses. Right now its in the ground and i was planning on digging it up in the fall. Now the greenhouse owner was telling me when i brought it in, place near a window, make sure gets plenty of water etc, and that it would continue to bloom all winter? But it sounds like i should let it go dormant? I have a feeling hes just getting older now and his memory might be going a bit. But as of now it the foilage looks great. Its just the shoots come up, and then turn yellow and brown before they ever bloom. So so far i have only gotten one bloom. Would not getting enough sun cause the new shoots to not bloom? It's really silly to argue with the success of someone growing a palnt a world away from it's natural habitat. Here in Dallas, aethiopicas do extremely well as a winter houseplants with an eastern exposure. A SW exposure will surely scortch, if not BBQ them behind glass on a sunny winter afternoon. In your situation, I would not try to force them into dormancy "because they're supposed to" unless they stop growing or refuse to flower. Keiko
