How far apart to lay soaker hoses for perennials?

I am buying soaker hoses on sale for next year. I want to lay them in my perennial bed, covered with mulch, to avoid overhead watering, and leave them in all season until late fall. It is a garden with established plants. How wide apart should they be for perennials? For vegetables? They are 50 foot lengths. The label says not to connect more than 100 feet end to end (2 lengths) due to reduced water flow at the end. I bought a Y splitter so I could operate 2 parallel runs at the same time: that should work. I would still have to move the source hose 2 or more times but that would still be easier than the way I water now.
