Devastation in the Garden- Part II

To continue the discussion started by Jean of the effects and aftermath of the Easter 2007 freeze.

Many of us in the southeastern USA had temperatures that dropped to 18F for three nights in a row after a mild spring that found roses leafed out, budded out and in more southern areas, into first bloom.

Death came to bloom and to stems as well as to hydrangeas and to leafed out deciduous forests.

For many of us, the freeze was followed by a drought that stretched into summer.

Fungal problems came with new growth on the roses. Some of us who had previously had no Powdery Mildew problems found PM on roses that had been PM free in other years. Black Spot came in and ruined other roses that were not known to be BS magnets. Thrips followed. Then Japanese beetles and other fungal problems.

It's now late in July. Time to look again at our roses and see what we can learn by sharing.
