This rose certainly isn't Jeri Jennings, but what is it?

Hello all, I was shipped a rose that was supposed to be JJ, but is quite a mystery! I thought it was another hybrid musk because of its long, arching canes, but they're quite twiggy and China-like. And the blooms...they're clustered and quite vivid red/pink, with occasional stripes of yellow at the center of some petals. They age to a softer mauvey pink. Any ideas about her name would be most welcome! Now I'm going to try to post photos for the first time, so please bear with me...

If the color was darker, I think it would look like 'Dragon's Blood.'

Robert's Wondrous Ruthie?
RWR is a sister seedling of JJ.

Leaves here are all wrong for Dragon's Blood, though -- DB has Grandmother's Hat's droopy leaves (similar to what you'd see on a peach tree). The leaves here would be hard to tell apart from JJ, and I'll bet that's how they got mixed up at the grower's place also.

Reading with interest because I'm in VA and love the hybrid musks. My JJ is still in a pot, but looked great last year (our first year together) and is looking strong this year. Also have BB, Cornelia, & Felicia that you have. Others I have are Kathleen, Nur Mahal, Lavender Lassie, Lyda Rose and non-HM Ghislaine de Feligonde. In pots looking for a place to land, in addition to JJ, are Robin Hood, Maid Marion and Moonlight. If you don't mind a once-bloomer, Marianne, Paul Barden's gallica, is gorgeous and healthy. My 2 are covered with buds and are just beginning to open. The display lasts for over a month. I have a few other gallicas and they are healthy.

Jeri has been a leader in rescuing and preserving old roses and in growing roses that work for you, rather than making you work for them. My life is tremendously richer for knowing her and her husband Clay, and being part of her rose circle in this forum and elsewhere. To answer your question re how these 2 compare, Jeri has 2 inch blossoms, starting bright yellow and cooling to a creamy shade as it matures and the plant appears to be growing at a fast rate, telling me she will not be compact, but more arching and graceful. Molineux was 4 ft. tops and maybe 3 ft wide. Its blooms were about 3 inches. Totally different except for the color yellow. And Molineux can show various shades depending on the season. I recall it being more apricot in fall.

No, I will be joining Central Florida Rose Society bec at least I can attend locally here and meet other rosarian. They are affiliated with ARS. Meeting is every first Thursday of the month but I have been missing it last couple of months. I did not consider about spacing at all until I read Bart' s thread sorting big teas and small. From Cori Ann who designed her garden and Sheila who showed how she did her teas and matching companions, how she did her garden design and she did it brilliantly with love. I think she must be a designer , a rose Whisperer . I can go on and on ....Lisa, Marlorena, Carol, Chris, Nik , Jeri, Virginia, Ingrid etc....Hey, I remembered ball the names...lol They inspired me and I end up googling and reading more. I am all game if anyone wants to suggest a book. I am sure I am going to make tons of mistakes but I got started the ball rolling and we will see how it rolls. It will be challenging I am sure since I just got into it but I know all you guys will guide me and corrected my mistakes. I just cracked my transmission on a 2014 car some valve broke and pressure build up and crack the casting . That a rebuild is $3000 a and a new is $5000. So, I pick a rebuild, now maybe I have to do fence (DIY). That was my fence money i budget for January. On a rental now till I get my car back in a week's time (hopefully). Thank goodness I did my Christmas shopping. Jin

I do believe we have a winner, Robert's Wondrous Ruthie, and I never would have known it without your help. Thank you, ladies. I may post my photos at HelpMeFind, to add to the references there. I agree, it is a lovely rose that flowers abundantly and has thrown up new canes like crazy. She's been a bit plagued with BS in my no-spray garden but I'm hoping that settles down. The misidentification turned out to be a fortuitous mistake because her colors actually play off a nearby Belle Epoque and some other old HTs and HPs quite well. The Jeri Jennings I finally got is at a patio corner, underplanted with an indigenous flower we have here in south Louisiana, called Indian Pink. Thanks again for your help. Kind regards, Janice

No, that is not 'Robert's Wondrous Ruthie'; it never displays an orange-red hue as your plant does. I ought to know, I bred it.

Well, Paul, your bush photo on HMF sure shows some flowers with a red-orange tint at least on my monitor. Janice's rose has the little yellow streaks like RWR as well as the right shades of pink, according to your other photos. Sometimes cameras do weird things with the red and pink shades. To me it's a deadringer for your rose which is BTW very attractive and floriferous.

Monitors can lie. I like the one I have now, but I'm not fully confident of its color accuracy.

The rose depicted does show some orange-red tones on my monitor, and the pink I see appears to be a fade of that (tho an attractive fade).

It's very pretty, whatever it is.

Could be a sport???

I know what it is and it was erroneously shipped to the customer. It was not supposed to leave the nursery, it is a test variety. :-(

Oh my goodness, if I was shipped something unique that was on trial, I'd certainly be agreeable to returning it. I actually emailed the vendor with a photo of the rose blooming back in the fall, when it was quite apparent it wasn't JJ. Never heard anything back. How to proceed, Paul? It's gotten rather large; the canes are 4 to 5 feet long.

If you like it, keep it. Its no longer being considered as an option for commerce, so its actually not that big a deal. Still, these things are not supposed to escape into the wild like this.

RE: not getting an email response from a merchant (of any kind): email affords a businessman the opportunity to say "Gosh, I am so busy, but I promise I will send this person a reply" and five days later, as daily nursery chores pile up, the email was forgotten. It happens to the best of 'em. What to do? Pick up the phone instead; its harder to ignore ;-)

If it's ok to ask, why is this one not being considered anymore? It looks unique and gorgeous as far as I can tell from the photos.
