Interesting!! I think peat is a disaster for this species...or any species in my climate...I can rot konjac in peat in my zone 6a, wet summers. The botanical garden here has many Am. titanum and so I use what they use....2:2:1 turface (this is high fired clay), pine bark and charcoal. Mine are on heat mats continuously and in a south facing window....they get watered once every 5 days....the top of the soil is very dry then, but down near the tuber their is a tiny bit of moisture. I've only had 3 go dormant in 20 months....I mean dormant by the way....they are never, ever allowed to dry out. I think if you post to the aroid-l and ask the growers over there they would advise against allowing them to ever dry out completely, but there is likely a difference in growing conditions I suppose. When mine have been dormant I've decreased the watering to maybe once every 10 days to keep them the tiniest bit damp....one stayed dormant for only a couple of weeks, one for maybe 4-5 weeeks and we shall see on the third one. I personally think that the tough part is watering on almost any Amorph or Arisaema...once you have it figured out then they are not that tough, but until you do you can kill them like you put round-up on them!! I got my seed from Troy (no longer selling by the way), but you should be aware that it is not legal, from what I understand (told to me by a person who lives in Indonesia and deals with the exotic plant trade), to collect these without proper permits, as the govt. over there is starting to realize that their natural resources are being stolen....it is now almost impossible to get any plants out of Brazil because they realized the same thing a while back. I'd be interested to hear what others have to say about titanum, but you can see the obvious problem....everyone has their own regimen, but most of us other than rubbleshop have never personally flowered one of these giants and have only been growing them for a couple of years when a ton of seed flooded the market. Wow, a 20" diameter tuber must be quite impressive!!! The tropics would be an awesome place to be for these!! Klavier....glad to hear the plants are doing well in Binghamton.....you must be nearly ready to graduate?? I have been lucky to keep my titanum very small for 4 years now.....I keep them poorly watered and in small pots (12" diameter) and that way I can enjoy the plants rather than having to get rid of them......a 45 pound tuber would not be very practical in a home, but a nice 4 foot petiole can be enjoyed for many years without a lot of fuss!! Aroideana, my Dracontium prancei continues to do fantastically well and even though I also keep it underpotted for practical reasons it has a new 5 foot tall petiole that has just formed in the house to replace the old one (the old one has not gone down yet) so I am quite pleased with that. Nest spring I will move it from its 8" diameter (20cm) pot up to a nice big 12 inch (30 cm) pot to let it have some room to run!! Of course, the D. polyphyllum continue to grow well and 2 unknown sp. from Brasil are also doing well so some of the Dracontium have proven to be pretty reliable for me :o) Dan

looks like a pasture grass to me... Perhaps Poa pratensis (Kentucky bluegrass, english meadow grass, smooth meadow grass) You'll need a photo of the flower rather than the seeds if you want a good Id. Also, is it a runner grass? How often does it flower (once a year, any time in summer, straight after rain?). That fact that it has happily come up in mulch tells me that it is almost certainly a weed. I would recommend against propagating a grass you can't accurately identify - you might end up spreading something really hard to get rid off, like serrated tussock! (when I was young I carefully propagated some interesting grass I found on a friends farm - a year later I discovered it was mexican plume grass and spent 3 years getting rid of it.

That was fun to search and see what that plant was and it's interesting name and history. I had a learning moment. My zone is too cold unless it lived in the house so I don't need seeds, but what an interesting plant. Have fun sharing your seeds! Heidi
