i just set out many of my veggie seeds in the last few days, this is my first year, so i don't know if it was the right time... we seem to be having an early spring. 40's and 50's... so i hope things will work out well.

A few but waiting on my vegs till later this month. We will still get some more junk (bad weather) before Spring is finally here. I am so ready for Spring!!!!

My petunias went out in January/February and haven't sprouted yet. Maybe they won't because they went in so early, but we get volunteers every year so I figured I'd do them early and they'd come up when they're ready. From what I read I figured people waited to sow them in case there was a warm spell and they sprouted too early to survive. We didn't get a warm spell this year so I'm hoping they'll be fine. Just in case I'll probably sow more this weekend.

It's tempting as it's 54 right now and in the high 50's within a week. I think I could go ahead and do most of the rest now. But I'm going to wait until the end of the month.

I don't do any of my squash/beans until end of April. They grow so fast and aren't in the containers very long. I think the first year I tried them in March and it didn't go very well. Only half germinated, and the other half I lost most of when it froze. Zinnias are also very frost Tender, so I do those at the same time.

The warm weather tease we are having this week just has me itching to sow my annuals and veggies too.

Tempted, but no! Have lost so much good seed this way. This is the ONLY restraint I show.

(Definitely not with perennials and hardy annuals....

Have only sown my perennials, I'm afraid mother nature is just teasing us now, I think we still have some cold weather ahead and I don't want to lose my babies!

I dont know if i can wait for sowing all my tenders... all these jugs are piling up, and i SO want it to be spring!!

We are only being teased with this weather and just as soon as those tender annuals sprout, we will have weather in the teens again. Be patient and save your seed!

I've done petunia early March last year and last year's winter was insane. You should be fine. I did my zinnia maybe early May but sowed it on an open pot.

Castor beans, make sure that soil is warm enough. I direct sowed some on areas that gets good sunlight and some few around mid May and only few made it.

I plan to do a few more hardy annuals, like snapdragons, nicotiana, Rudbeckia, etc. pretty soon - the next week or so.

However, there is no point to sow the heat-loving tender annuals and veggies now (like Zinnias, Tithonia, and tomatoes) because they require warm temperatures to thrive in the garden. I'll do those in April.

terrene, are you sure about Tithonia? I sowed mine last week. I was told I can wsow it. I hope I won't lose it since I don't have much seeds.

I'm on the 5/4 border and I just sowed 5 seeds from 8 different tomato varieties just to see what happens this early. Most of these varieties are Russian with short DTM, and I'm ready for tomatoes. I wondered if being Russian meant they might have a bit better cold tolerance. One of the 8 was also Brandywine. We'll see how they go! AFter they sprout I will protect them if we get a serious nighttime cold snap, though.

The one annual I know I WON'T sow early is zinnias. Even if they survive, they won't grow worth a darn until the temps are decent. No sense in trying an early start with those.

Still collecting the rest of my veggie seeds, and waiting to sow the rest of my annual seeds, as well as waiting on some annuals I just ordered.

I'm in zone 6 and haven't done mine yet. Weather is too cold and gray. Tender annuals like heat and sunshine. I'll do them soon no matter what the weather. But they never sprout until the weather is warmer anyway.

I'm longing to sow my 'Zahara Starlight Rose'Zinnias, along with my lime green Envy Zinnias, but will not do so until April, as it has only taken a couple of weeks for mine to start germinating once the weather is a bit warmer.

I sowed a 6 pack of the Zahara Starlight Rose Zinnias under lights on Saturday. Got my first sprout today. They're new for me this year so I was anxious for them.

I should have read this before I planted 17 milk jugs with zinnias yesterday. I'm hoping that they won't germinate until it warms up and if it turns cold again, you know it will, I'll try to protect them some way. I did save some seed if I have a crop failure.lol
