Lilies bloom time
Comments (9)This one is Anteres. She is right outside my kitchen window and is my Coffee Buddie. If you'll look under "I'll show you Mine" you'll see the blue stock tank pond in full sunlight. The white one there is Innocence another night bloomer I love for her fregrance. Koi liked her too and ate the tuber. I have to replace her next trip to a town. I had the idea of a Patriotic Pond with red white and blue lilies and the red white and blue Shubunkins. I'm a little messed up now without the Innocence and biggest Shubunkin's red is all but faded away. I don't know why. The other has it's full red spots still. Comments (1)First, callas (Zantedeschia species) are not really lilies (true lilies = Lilium species) but arums, so you may get a better response posting in the Aroid forum. Second, I've never heard of anyone attempting to grow them hydroponically but theoretically I guess it could be done. The attached link has some info on growing them under lights (greenhouse conditions) but may be more appropraiet to potted plants. Comments (2)Soil temperatures are going to be the overriding factor. Callas are a summer flowering bulb in your area and will only start producing growth when soil temps (and indirectly, air temps) are sufficiently warm. You may want to use this advice from the Pacific Calla website: In other areas (zones lower than 8-10), they can be planted when temperatures rest higher than 55 degrees F (below 55 degrees, calla lilies stop growing). Just make sure that there is no danger of frost or of temperatures dropping below 55 degrees in the first 12 weeks after planting. They are not going to be inground winter hardy for you, so plan accordingly. Here is a link that might be useful: Pacific Callas...See MoreCalla lily bloom
Comments (2)Gingerdog, I THOUGHT I just responded to your post, but I can't find my response! Calla lilies are aroids, called zantedeschia aethiopica. So they aren't related to lilies at all. If you try the search feature (type in above), I bet someone on one of the other forums could help! :0) Phyl...See MoreUser
