Better in bud than bloom

Flaming Peace.

Bud could set your hair on fire (hence the name Flaming). In bloom, only okay. Mine did virtually nothing in 3 years so I gave it away.

Mine's been great. Some afternoon shade to preseve the colors has helped. It did take quite a while to get going.

Of all the "Peace" sports, 'Chicago Peace' must be the best, even more beautiful than the original 'Peace'.

I have to agree, Chicago Peace is one of the better sports, beautiful colors on that rose. It's hard to believe that Flaming Peace came from Peace.

Sarah and Val - That's the ffo on Always Applique, and I would expect the applique eye to become pronounced on subsequent blooms. It's also blooming on pretty short scapes this first season. I look forward to this one settling in and maturing. Nancy - That's right, with Bohemia After Dark eight years in the magic number. Just kidding. I like the color combo of your IB. Different from what we saw 20 years ago. I bought 'Party's Over' this year to have one with this combo. Hope it does as well. By the way .... in the top photo there is a lavender blooming shrublet to the right of the iris .... do you know its name? TIA

Abe Darby has my favorite rose fragrance I've found yet, it's fruity & bright & just delicious. & honestly I didn't love the bloom on him at first either, pinks aren't my favorite, and there are so many other good ones to consider, but the fragrance won me over, and now I've grown to love the bloom as well. He's been in a pot the whole time I've had him & I just planted him in the ground, so I'm excited to see his blooms get even better! I'm glad you are enjoying yours!! It is lovely! In regards to the color being lighter, many things could cause it, weather conditions, amount of water or nutrients it has received. I wish I could give you an answer as to your specific situation, but I'm not as knowledgeable as some here, hopefully someone could give you some help with that! -Jessica

I'm aware of 'Chicago Peace', 'Flaming Peace' and 'Lucky Piece'. Are there other sports of 'Peace'?

I once thought about making a bed of all Peace roses. Don't know why now that I didn't.

Honore de Balzac - buds are ok, but the pink edges on fully open bloom are a bit fake-ish. Its a shame really, since fragrance is nice, but that pinkness is not my thing.

Nostalgia - buds are nice, but open bloom is a bit meh, just a white blob with pink edging, looks a bit plastic.

I have the opposite feelings about Osiria though, the buds look like a red rose with a very bad case of mildew, but the open blooms are lovely.
