I received some seed in trade that was marked "Heliopsis Lemon Queen". I have found info on "Helianthus Lemon Queen" but not on the other. Anyone else grow this and which is it?
I think it is helianthus though I have been told heliopsis as well. I got a division from a friend last year that sat in a bag for months before I got it planted. Still grew and bloomed well.
So pretty! Love it with the purple flowers, what are they? Is that an ornamental millet at the bottom of the screen?
Helianthus 'Sunshine Daydream'
How to tell difference between Heliopsys and Helianthus
ID on roadside plant please
Yes, that is Purple Majesty ornamental millet. The purple flowers are verbena bonariensis.
The large perennial Sunflower with profuse lemon yellow flowers is Helianthus 'Lemon Queen'. It is actually a hybrid of 2 species of Helianthus. I've had it for several years and love the soft yellow blooms (as do the Bumblebees). Please note that it is very vigorous and grows HUGE. I divide mine every Spring and can't believe the growth it puts on each year. I also pinch or chop back in early Summer, or else it can grow large and floppy.
There is also an annual Sunflower called 'Lemon Queen' (that would be Helianthus annuus). I ordered some seeds for that this year because I love soft yellow in the gardens.
And just when I thought I was done looking for new seeds SOMEONE had to post a pretty picture!(thanks mnwsgal, you enabler!) If the bumblebees love it then the butterflies will too, so I must have it in my garden!!Thanks for the eyecandy, mnwsgal!-B
