Thank-you to all of the enablers in this group!

Trudi, and each and everyone of you has now infected me with "The Bug"

I now have freinds who think i'm nuts (oh yea, they knew that before),but they are saving milk jugs...lol

I'm happy to report that I have shirley poppies just starting to sprout!!! YIPPIE WHOOO AHHH

Congrats on your poppy sprouts! When WS folks say pay it forward, they mean it which is why so many of us are eager to encourage and enable newbies. You, in your turn, will enable someone who doesn't even suspect you yet and has absolutely no clue what's about to happen to him/her.

It's part of that wave thing we talk about. (;-p)

agirlsgirl - ;) You're an enabler... and therefore my friend. haha.. I should change my nickname to seed maniac or something. pvick - I'm finding that you are correct. bakemom - Since this is my first year, I know that I'm just going 'round the bend with this and will probably find some of my most desired are things I don't even wind up liking, and like you, that some of the surprises will please me to no end. It's a fun adventure. Oh also bakemom - I have Sea Holly sprouts!!! So exciting. I know that's one that won't disappoint. Half of GW can't be wrong.. lol. They all popped up virtually overnight after a heavy rain. I've been gardening for a while, except for the hiatus while pregnant and when my son was small. This year he turned 4 so I have started to reclaim the garden. A lot of plants that I've had in the past.. ones that I wanted so badly and paid dearly for out of catalogs wound up being disappointing. Then some things that people sent me in trades that I had never heard about before wound up becoming favorites. So I think it will be the same way with the plants I get from ws. I do have a bit of an obsessive disorder or something when it comes to plants though.. and also a soft spot. Even when something is obviously not doing well after being given every opportunity, location and tlc.. I still have a hard time ripping things out. Sometimes they do get moved to a 'sink or swim' area in my mom's yard though. Oddly enough, many have flourished there.

Yeah, I could recognize the wrapping/packaging technique as the Naylor Boyz. Seen many a one wrapped that way. And I too love the scapes on them, they take great care to get such a tall scape in the box and on your doorstep without damage, don't they. In my last few orders all mailorder delivered, I've had many many short scapes from all sellers, and now even more appearing on those same new arrivals just a week later. I took great care to place them in good locations, and we've had mucho rainfall, but absolutely tropical heat and humidity. If those plants from Michigan and Illinois and Vermont and New Hampshire are not in shock, they must think they are back in China along the Yangtze River somewhere. Your Golden Meadows is superb looking, Barb. Makes me want another one. So glad that hosta are not BABIES. More than one at a time is fine! :)

Be careful. He might be cute now but not so cute later when the hormones are raging. Still, I know how you feel. Whenever I see an animal that looks hungry or neglected my first reaction is to take care of it. If you want to do it some good, leave it alone. Or do what I used to do when it was a very difficult winter for wild life - put some feed into the woods. I used to put fruit, nuts, a salt block, and trimmings from my evergreen shrubs into the woods. I also put out seed for the birds and corn for the squirrels. I never put out any food for wildlife when bears were starting to come out of hibernation. The last thing you need is to come face to face with a grouchy, hungry, and possibly angry (if she were a mother) bear. Whatever you do, don't go into the woods alone, and make sure someone other than the person you are with knows where you are going.

yeah well i have had the same...girls at work say you and your seeds, but a few are trying it lol. they wont be laughing when they want starts off my flowers now will they :)

Evidence of germination found today of the following:
Patty's Plum poppy, Carpet of snow alyssum, Rose campion, Yellow yarrowMorella cherry lupine, Johnny Jump-ups, Dwarf Fairy candytuft(mixed colors) YooHoo! It is in the 60's today with warm sunshine and that makes me very happy!

Clear-sighted observation, Karen. It's absolutely what we do now that I think about it!!! And just like it says in that Jefferson Starship song, "Nothin's Gonna Stop Us Now."

luvsdirt - there are millions of seeds out there waiting, needing folks to plant them. Let the doubting Thomases save milk jugs for you. Whether or not they believe, they're recycling and that's good for everybody on the planet.
