Brussels sprouts will sometimes produce roots around the cut stalk if left too long in the fridge, as will many other brassicas. Whether you could ever get a useable crop of sprouts by this method I have no idea but I'm doubtful. I think that if it worked it would be done. Since sprouts are potential flowers I suspect they would just produce a few greens, at best, before bolting. Let us know what happens to yours.

If I remember right, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and broccoli seedlings all look pretty similar. I grew some last spring, and if I hadn't labeled them, I don't know if I could have told them apart. Did quite a bit of searching on the Net. We're starting to eat our brussels sprouts and as I was cleaning them I discovered that there are tiny tiny black bugs deep in the sprouts. Are you certain the black things are "bugs"? I planted BSs for the first time in a long time this year and found tiny black specks all over in the nooks and crannies around the "balls". They turned out to be tiny turds from asst looper type "worms" which were eating on the top leaves while leaving their poop behind. The egg sacks may be from the "loopers"? Just guessing without a pic though.

wow talk about setting in fast. Those pests must follow these posts! I had done a little research last summer regarding the cabbage butterfly and also a similar green grub that was eating away at a few broccoli plants I had outside. If i remember correctly, I put a tomato plant in a pot in with where I was growing the broccoli because if i remember correctly it acts as a deterrent/helps to mask the smell that attracts those pests. The plants are in similar enough families and have similar pests so it may be worth looking into a bit more? Once I did that I did a final sweep to remove any larva on the bottom of the leaves, and never had to worry about them again for the summer. Maybe it was the tomato, maybe I just got lucky, but again definitely worth looking into
