Angelica Gigas - any luck extending its life?

Ruth_MI

While this is supposed to be a bienniel, I recently read on a nursery site that cutting the flowers before seed sets can potentially extend its life another year or two. Has anyone tried this?

I've always let it self seed, so I've had flowers every year, but this is the first year I have quite a few flowers in my little Angelica area. The plants are large enough and close enough that I'm not sure how many first year (non-blooming) plants are there for next year.

I'll probably let a plant or two go to seed, so I have enough to guarantee some seedlings for my sister and me, then try cutting the flowers on the rest before they set seed. But I'd love to hear from anyone who has tried this, either successfully or not. Thanks!
