LOL. Body bagged roses are truly "grab bags" these days. It's now my conclusion that you never know what you're gonna get, EXCEPT that it's NOT going to be the rose pictured and named on the label. Just for kicks (and because [a] hope springs eternal, and [b] because I'm a glutton for punishment], each year I buy a bagged 'Oldtimer' from either WalMart or Lowe's. This year when I unbagged my Lowe's purchase I found a metal tag that read 'Pink Double Knock Out'. The tag wasn't wired to a cane, it was simply loose within the bag. Very curious, I potted the thing, waited, and watched as the heavily waxed canes turned first to a rich mahogany red/brown, then to a progressively darkening gray, culminating finally into terminal ebony. I'm still grieving the possibility that I might actually have had the great good fortune to have copped a 'Pink Double Knock Out" for just cents over 3 bucks. Arghhh . . .

Hello Nummykitchen, My Mojave thorns no bigger than most other roses. Here is another photo that pictures a thorn--color isn't this pink so lousy picture. Glad to hear that you like first photo. Mojave a great rose and glad you have one too. Jim

My sympathies as I have also lost favorite roses to this horrible disease. This weekend I was at the District Conference for the ARS and there was much talk about RRD and other pests and diseases. The term we loved was 'be a tall shadow in your garden' meaning be a presence there to look over everything. We all get busy, lazy, sick, hurt and can't be out there all the time. But when we can we need to be aware of what it looks like normally so we know when something is not right. I was able to save one bush by noticing some weird growth at the tip of a cane, which I cut out. 3 years later, and so far no more signs of RRD on that bush. This fall I found some suspicious growth on another rose, so I cut out that cane. Time will tell. If Little Mischief looks ok, then you can plant next to it. I would think all of the mites are dead or dormant at this time of year. But watch Little Mischief very carefully when it comes out of dormancy in the spring. That is when RRD can show up.
