OT: Yikes! Snow!

So we were prepared for 2-4" of snow last night. I didn't think it would even actually stick to the street. Last night at 8:30 we were already up to 5", by 10:00 we were up to 8". I wake up this morning and there is 29"! UGH! I think the weather man was on something when he did his report. If I had known how much snow we were going to get I would have moved the 10 jugs with sprouts to a location that had a little more protection. Oh well. I guess I can resow them if they don't make it. Has anyone else been hit by this storm?

That happened to us in pa. They were calling for 8 to 10 inches. I wasnt buying it, but by morning we had 2 and a half feet! This was in the begining of february. I think its good for the jugs, it keeps them insulated, and when your snow melts they will be nicely watered! I cant wait for it to melt.

We got an inch, thankful it melted off the sidewalks and is sticking to the latest containers. Am waiting for more, supposed to be 4" and maybe more in the next 3 days. Nothing yet. I welcome it for my containers but will have to deal with it on sidewalks and car.

Those winter scenes sure are familiar! We have about the same amount of snow here. I actually would welcome more snow since my husband's business relies on snow revenue and the past 2 winters have been brutal on his business and our pocketbook. I'm not crazy about it personally, but it is 'white gold' to many. Plus, I do like it blanketing my daylilies over the winter. We have the same birds at our feeders as well. I so enjoy all the birds in the dead of winter. We have feeders everywhere, of every kind imaginable, and suet cakes too. My favorite feeder is the one right by my kitchen window where I can watch the birds up close while I do my dishes. My cats like to sit and watch them too and cures their winter boredom. I am always happy to hear that a kitty has found a loving home. Lucky Marmalade to show up at your doorstep! As I've mentioned before, I am jealous of all that land you have....just wonderful open space. I have too much of woods around me and not enough sunlight! Celeste

Yes Paul. I was thinking the same thing as Tom! lol It's beautiful and you are right about the bluish color. I love the snow on everything just before sunrise, in someone else's yard. I learned something new too. Thunder snow must be a weird experience. Keep kids away from windows as lightening might strike! Wow! In So. Dak. 2 different summers we had an unusual storm. The sky was sunny & bright & then turned into a huge pan of buns with tops facing the ground & they were a light pinkish tan color. Air seemed sort of strange too. I ran around & got brothers in & all the toys & closed windows & pulled boat up & it really let go with a terrific storm. So if you are ever boating or in yard & feel air changing or see "pan of buns" like huge rectangle of them, get things in & out of way. I know lot of wind & rain but can't remember if hail also, I think so. This was between 1954-59. I think at least 1 fisherman drown on the lake that day. I agree with lilyfinch. The temperature underneath the snow should not drop below 32Âº. A dry winter is actually harder on plants, because they will get exposed to colder temperatures, than if there was snow cover.

Well, it is still snowing, but warm enough that it is also melting. I have faith that my babies will be okay (kinda). Wasn't sure if I would be able to make it to work tomorrow. We don't get a plow on our street. My lovely neighbors have been doing 20-30 laps around the block just to pack down the snow so that people can drive. I spent 2 hours shoveling the walk and driveway, and street, and car. As long as the snow stops in the next couple hours I should be able to make it tomorrow. As for the jugs, yeah, there is still no sign of them except a large lump in the snow. Hopefully by Tuesday or Wednesday enough snow will melt that I will be able to go and peek and see what the damage is. I am SOOOOOO ready for spring!

It's 59 degrees here right now at 7:06pm EST. It got up to 67 this afternoon. It was a beautiful day. Thought I'd share.

The jugs are still covered and I am dying to peek in them to see if things are still alive. It is supposed to snow again tonight so hopefully by Thursday I will be able to see something! I don't know if I can wait another 27 days.
