Birches for the Southeast?

'Heritage' river birches are usually recommended for my area, but I'd like to try another variety or two. Has anyone grown Crimson Frost birch (Betula 'Crimson Frost') or Whitespire birch (Betula populifolia) successfully in the southeast?

The Forest Farm web site describes Whitespire birch as: "Selected at the U of WI, this handsome 30-40'x 20' tree offers chalk white bark, glossy, drk grn, fine textured foliage tolerant of high temps AND resistance!! to the birch borer... an excellent tree for wide use."

I wondered about "Selected at the U of WI." ;-) Any experience and/or advice with these trees in the balmy climes of Virginia?

Thanks,

Pam
