Climbing Rose Newbie Needs Help Please?

gardenbug

I have 2 climbing roses (Polka) planted along side my cedar trellis. A firm trellis with cemented posts. The trellis is about 20'x6'. I planted these roses very early in the spring and they are growing quite nicely. They have lots of buds and leaves are a nice healthy green. They are about 4-5' tall now.

My question? When do I start tying them to the trellis? What should I use to tie them with? When I tie them do I bring real close to the trellis or leave them out a bit. The tallest of the canes are beginning to lean forward a bit, so I'm thinking it's time to begin tying.

Can someone please help me figure out what I am suppose to do?
