Magnolia has never bloomed--why not?

Please help solve a mystery! We have a grandiflora magnolia tree grown from seed that is at least 16 years old. The tree gets plenty of water and sunlight, and it's grown into a very healthy-looking, tall tree--probably 25-30 feet tall or more. Here's the mystery: It has never bloomed--not once, no seeds pods, nothing, in all these years.

Do magnolias require pollinization from another magnolia? Does the fact that it was grown from seed have anything to do with why it hasn't bloomed? (Maybe that's how all magnolias are grown--I don't know). Does it need a particular kind of fertilizer?

Any ideas on this? (Mind you, we love the tree so whether it blooms or not is in some ways irrelevant, but I do so enjoy the sweet smell of magnolia blossoms!) Thanks for any help/insights you can give me.
