It doesn't look highly characteristic of blackspot, but it looks even less like other fungus diseases you might have. It's surprising that leaves so infected should not have turned yellow and dropped long ago. My guess is that this plant has acquired a strain of blackspot that it can tolerate for some time. Foliage of damask roses sometimes has a similar look for that reason.

The spots in pic. 3 are blackspot shaped, but then blackspot doesn't normally show on both faces of the leaf. It rarely attacks through the bottom surface unless the leaf has been forced to grow upside down.

What do others think?

Judging from the pallor, the plant really needs some nitrogen.

I am no expert, but I have seen a lot of blackspot. I would not call it blackspot, but what do I know?

The first pic looks like it could be spray damage. Doesn't look like black spot except the picture of the back of the leaves.

My Rouge Royale always looks like this. It grows and blooms, but the leaves are just not pretty. I don't think it is about Rouge Royale either, it is something in my yard. It is well watered, fed and mulched, I have no idea what it is. I tried a fungicide a couple of time and haven't noticed any difference. Is your soil good? Was it amended at planting? Is there root competition? These are some of the problems that my yard has FWIW.

That the rachis where the leaves attach to become the compound leaf has big black dead spots worries me a lot. I think this one is for the state of Florida ag people who should be able to culture the fungi out (and I think the problem is fungal, possibly with some bacteria making things worse.)

I didn't even notice the black there. It is strange isn't it?

Maybe a fungicide will indeed help as I have never used it on my plants. Nothing except bakingsoda.

I wonder too about my water from my irrigation system. It gets directly on the leaves twice a week.

I am not sure how to contact our Ag. people in FL.. going to have to do some investigating.

Now I wonder if any other FL rose growers have this issue.

Look under Orange County Cooperative Extension or Agricultural Extension. You would need to take a couple of leaves by the office.

These leaves are going to die anyway. You need to get on with the cultural practices we discussed in your other thread.

All, this is a Sunsprite which has had no care at all for 6 months. It is defoliated with a few pale spotty leaves left at the top.

Yes it has been almost 6 months since I could give it any TLC.
I didn't neglect it on purpose. I have had an extended illness and am just getting back to enough energy to get back out and work in my yard.

It has 4-5 spots with brand new growth and I am hoping if I start now with my fungicide (getting the Bayer brand you mentioned) and some fish emulsion I will keep some of the new leaves.

I appreciate all the help more than you know.

FWIW, I was deadheading my supposed Rose de Rescht and her leaves look just like yours. This was the first winter she took a major hit in with the weather. Maybe it is stress related.

That's what I meant by saying Daisy's symptoms resemble what we on the Antique RF call "damask crud." This is commonly understood to be blackspot expressed with a different look, and slow to kill the leaves despite the horrid appearance.

I have this also. On DA Charles Darwin and Double Delight (standard) They are in different parts of the yard different light hours. Maybe even my Moonstone (standard) They are not blooming well. I really haven't lost a lot of leaves. The stem black is only on Double Delight(bareroot this season). My other Double Delight is fine. For me I was wondering about being under the Eucalyptus tree and it's oil. But I don't think so because a lot of others thrive. It is frustrating because on one plant the leaves dry out and on another they stay hydrated yet look this way. I am guessing the different make up of each plant.
My gut feeling is there is a fungus among us. So I will be spraying accordingly and see if that helps.

That is a good point. We had our first very bad winter this past year and I lost allot of plants in my yard. I guess it could be stress as well. It certainly could have contributed to weakening it enough to get fungus.

michael, thanks. This rose came with the house, and this place sat empty for three years. I didn't even know there was a rose out there because we bought in winter. This poor rose was planted under a dang pine tree and gets about two hours of weak sun in the morning. Until this year she has survived, even thrived, with little disease issues. We have had a ridiculous amount of rainfall this Spring, though, so I am not surprised by "crud" even on her. My plan is to whack her back to nubbins and move her in the Spring. Maybe she will lose her legginess and bush out in full sun.
